My new jackson chameleon's poop

Hello all, Just saw my chameleon leave a fresh poop. I am seeing some orange and some white. I thought I had read that orange is a bad thing in the poop 101 area, but since I also see some white,I wanted to get a second opinion.

Here are some pics. At the moment, I have just been thoroughly misting the cage three times a day and that has been his water source. I see him drinking occasionally.

I tried a little dripper, but it just ended up splashing water everywhere so I stopped using it.

Any help would be appreciated.

I am going to start using Reptaid here because he just came into the home, and LLL reptile said they don't provide any anti-parasitic or immune boost.

That looks like he's very dehydrated to me, but I may be wrong. Jackson's if I am correct need a lot of water. What are your temps? How long are the mistings for? You should probably be offering a dripper, but try aiming it over a few plants to collect on the leaves?

My basking area is set at 82 degrees F. The bottom of the tank sits at about 70 degrees. Night temps drop about 10 degrees. I mist for about a minute until everything is totally drenched.

I will try adding the dripper back to the setup here. But I am thinking I want to avoid having it drip all the way from the top because then it hits every leaf on the ficus tree and flies all over the place.

Maybe I will just have it drip on a few leaves

He might just be dehydrated from shipping and such, it sounds like you are misting enough if you add the dripper back in... I would maybe offer some soft bodied and moisture rich feeders such as silkworms or hornworms just in case, they tend to help with dehydration quite a lot.

Pics of cage

Can we see a pic of the cage?

Pretty sure it is an 18x18x36.

Just added the dripper back literally five minutes ago. That has not been in the equation.

Have a 60 watt ceramic (basking spot) and a 15 watt 18" Reptisun 5.0 on top .

Again, was misting heavily until all leaves of the ficus were soaked.

Seems like the little guy doesn't like being misted directly so much, he closes his eyes and turns slightly darker when I spray.

I have had him for almost two weeks now (Thursday to the day).

He is really small, are there any horn worms that will work for a 3" chameleon? He really loves house flies (as a treat), he has been eating mostly super worms and crickets, he seems to leave the dubias alone, even the really small ones.

He likes food that moves around a lot.

Thanks for the tip! I will get him some silk worms too.

Maybe try ordering some hornworm eggs? That way they'll hatch after a couple of days and you can feed them to him while they're still small and growing. If you put them somewhere colder than room temperature it'll slow their growth too, so that may give you time to feed off quite a few before they're too big.

That is a great idea! Thanks, I wouldn't have come up with that.

His urate does look dehydrated, but I agree, it could be from shipping. Shipping is very stressful, so give him some time to get settled in his new home. It sounds like your on the right path. Have you checked out the caresheets on the forum here? They will give you all the basics and lots of good information.

Good luck and we want pictures!
