My new pygs

These are the first ever chams of any kind I've had. I think this will just start an unhealthy addiction. :p

This is my female named Chameleon Starship

And this is my male, ReptarKingoftheOzone

It took a better part of the day for the 2 to start moving around once they did a little exploring when they were first put in their home. Both have been drinking which is good to see, especially since the female is a little on the skinny side. I'm sure a few crickets and a little rest is all she needs.

These are wc from Mike at FLchams.

I would put the female in her own cage for a while for her first few meals

I read in ur other post that the female is napping alot. Thats not a good sign

Hmm, the only thing I have to put her in is a .5 gallon plastic betta tank.

And what am I supposed to do if her napping all day is a bad sign?

hi ROFL,

nice chams...

btw, about her eye(s)...you just got them, they are stressed.
not a good sign, but I'm thinking heat and stress.

I almost just lost my female panther I got today just a few hours ago due to what I feel was heatstroke.
not that my room temps were bad or the basking bulb, but if she drank it was behind my back, and the added stress almost did her in if she didn't drink.
besides all the other signs that I saw, at one time I noticed that she had 1 eye closed for about 5 mins.

I was so scared. she couldn't get off the bottom and was acting drunk.
I was afraid of a fall.

I dragged her cage into my living room and blasted the AC. whithin an hour she stoped panting and was resting on a vine.
so I turned the room lights off and let her go to sleep.
1 hour later she is still sleeping on the vine and looks better.

so check your temps, both room and basking.
your girl might even be dehydrated like I feel mine is.

what a crazy night.

It can't be heat issues, if anything they were probably cold when I first got them. Basking isn't something that pygmys do, I've never seen anything that suggested a basking lamp for pygs, so it can't be a heat thing.

The female has been lethargic, but she drank water heartily. And although shes been lazy shes reacted accordingly to stimulus changes. She got startled over the mist and freaked out when I bumped the terrarium.

Only time will tell.

Wow Harry.......close call seems like.....I had that happen with my Panthers being outside in the beginning of this summer.....thankfully, some1 was home and notice the colors being off on them and blasted them with the hose on mist for 2 hrs and when I got home, I brought them inside for a few days until temps came down......Now when it is gonna be real hot, I have a canopy that goes over the cages and a patio misting system that is on all day.

As for this guys pygs.......keep them well hydrated, cool and hope for the best. Pygs can be difficult to keep, and considering your a new owner.....u have your hands full on learning alot in a short time....wish u and your new ones all the good luck in the world!!

And yea, I'd separate them.....I think this was a big factor in me losing my female as well.

Hmm, every where you look things say that bearded pygs are a perfect "starter" cham. But as I've learned with many endeavors, you can know everything in theory but have a steep learning curve when it comes to practice.

I'll keep everyone posted.

In fact, heres the first update...they're sleeping, lol. :D

Certainly stress is an issue but this has definately gone beyond treating for stress just by seeing how skinny she is and knowing that she sleeps during the day. Its pretty hard to turn around at this point but you can try. Theres always the vet... If shes drinking water on her own FREQUENTLY then thats a good sign, just get her in her own enclosure for a few weeks till she fattens up a bit.

It sounds like uve done ur research and everything so just go with what u think is best. I wouldnt say theres a steep learning curve with these guys and they ARE good starter chams, but i think the issue is that u went with WC chams instead of CB. If ur getting a cham in the mail get a CB because WC ones its usually a hit or miss situation. I only get WC if i can see the cham in person to make sure theyr ok... u dont get that luxury if u order them in the mail

eh, theres nothing to be done now. I'll look into getting a 5 gallon tank for just her, provided she lives long enough to benefit from it.(I know that sounds horrible but its the truth)

The only thing I'll have to buy is the actual tank, I can use stuff from where they are now to set it up, no problem.

the crazy thing is she was fine all day.
I found out my room temps were the same as the breeder and my basking light was the same watage...and my basking light is raised up about 5 or 6 inches.

my temps were fine, I misted 3 times before regardless that she wouldn't drink infront of me....yet she wouldn't eat infront of me as well, so I thought nothing of it.
but my point is that "stress" of shipping can freak out a small cham and she might have been dehydrated if she didn't drink.
yet she would get worse when I tryed twice to drip some water in her open mouth.

stress from shipping, a lack of water durring the shipment, , low humidity due to heat packs while shipping, a new environment, so on, and on...it all plays a toll on something as small as a pygmy or my girl.
I could sit here and say it wasn't too hot, or my basking light is almost too weak, or that she wasn't near the bulb...who cares as long as blasting my AC did the trick.
