My new Veiled

I've more or less given up hope on finding my lost cham ( though I still have an enclosure for him if he turns up ) and bought a new baby. He was purchased from Debbie @ Beeger Boxes at the last White Plains show. He's 2 months old ( correct me if I'm wrong Debbie ) and seems to be a 'he'. I'll post better picures later along with his weight and length. I'm considering purchasing another one once this one's sex is more certain.

Sorry for the crappy photos. I'm still learning how to shoot with this camera ( Canon SD870IS ). If anyone has one of this line and can shoot some tips fo rme I'd appreciate it as I cant good shots of any of my pets.

Did you check for the white "spurs" behind his back feet? At his age they might just be nubs, but females don't have any nubs.

It looks like your camera is too close to the subject. Your camera likely has a macro setting (it will look like a little flower). Set it to that to get more close up shots with narrow depth of field.

Looks like a happy, healthy little cham!

There are small nubs - which is why I'm assuming its a male - but I will know for certain as he gets a little bigger.

He's not going for anything in a bowl. Its just a perspective trick as thats a Jesus fern in a dish a few feet behind.

The picture is out of focus because I was holding the branch in one hand and the camera in another and he wouldnt stay still. I tried using the macro but still have a hard time focusing on small things or stuff up close ( i.e. shots of my aquariums ) but will have to read through that manual.

Thanks for the comments.

What I meant is that at the size its currently, my best opinion is a male but the nubs are so small they could just be part of the ankles. Once it grows a little I'll be more certain. If I can manage to work the camera, I'll post better pictures including of its hind legs and you guys can tell me what you think.

it's very easy to sex a veiled chameleon.
when they are babies, the spur looked like a tiny pimple at the back of their foot.
You can't miss it. if you didn't see it, then it's a baby girl.

Here are some better shots. I have to figure out how to focus better with this camera. I dont know if its just the macro setting I need to figure out or what but I have so sit down with the manual because I have such a hard time focusing on smaller and/or closer objects. Thats one thing I like better with my film SLR - much easier to use. My opinion about digital cameras - even the so called P&S - is that they have turned a visual art into a technical skill ( no offense to anyone as I know some very good photographers who work with digital but it still comes down to the technical skills )

Anyway back to topic. I measured and weighed her ( I now think its a female but hopefully someone can tell from my lousy shots ) and she is 2.25" STV and 4 grams ( doesnt sound right, i have to go find that paper and double check, maybe it was 40 ).
