My pygmy's New Home

I Joined the forum a few weeks ago when I got my 2.2 pygmy's (I bought then as 1.3 but realized I had two males and had to separate the two pairs) But haven't posted here yet. I up graded one of the pairs to a tank I just finished and thought now was as good a time as any to start a thread.

heres a few pictures

They look great! :D
I hope the other two have digs just as cool ;)

...the more i see other peoples males, the more i think Marlow is a girl :(

is your female in the first pics gravid? she looks it. thats what mine looked like when i got her!

Gary, if Marlow is a girl, how is Mini laying eggs?!?!?! ; )

thanks Gary, I have to make make one for the other pair still. right now their in the old paper towel, branches, and potted plants set up.

yea the females gravid, the photo doesn't do her size justice. she looks like shes swallowed a balloon. the other female was gravid too I think and when I took the photos today she looked a lot skinnier, but I didn't have the time to carefully dig threw the deli cups I put out for her to lay in. I'll check it out tomorrow and hopefully I'll find something good.

thanks again for the comments guys

love the bark idea on the walls, gives it that natural look and im sure the pygs dig it since they can blend in so well

Yea it's birch bark, I don't think I'll use cork ever again it takes up so much room birch is paper thin I love it. I'm actually coming up with a few different designs to furnish tanks with it (that are a lot cleaner looking then this one, to much foam showing) and make fake mountable branches and if I can find the time to make a bunch I might sell them in the fall, still playing with the idea though.

the tank is a 20gal high, turned on it's side with a jungle box vert conversion kit installed. It doesn't have the bet ventilation but I have fans in that part of the room to keep the air circulating, it's designed for dart frogs. Exo terras are nice but I hate the sizes and making AGA tanks into vertical open front tanks is pretty simple weather you buy a kit or make it on your own, and I love the way they look too.

Thanks for the comments and complements guys

My pygs like to hang out on their forest floor. I could be wrong (please inform me if I am) but aren't they bottom dwelling creatures? Mine love the little plants, but use the stems to settle down to sleep.

It okay for them to liek to stay at the bottom. My male and one of the female do that

I think there just low dwellers. Maybe they crawl amongst the leaf litter but they have typical chameleon hands that are good for nothing when it comes to walking on the ground;)

also does anyone know what a pygmy egg is supposed to look like under an egg candle. I'm a little over 30 days in and there are definitely dark spots in each of the four eggs now but I don't see any veins? I'm only experienced in hard shelled eggs never dealt with the leathery kind before but I would imagine that they would have molded over or at lest turned a bad egg color if they were not fertile?

I could post pics if that would help?

any insight would be greatly appreciated
thanks

Not to jack the thread, but my first male looked like a girl, but he and his lady made lots of fertile eggs. The male I have now (my second) looks like the ones in these photos. I was shocked because I didn't know they were so colourful. I guess you'll find out what Marlow is if you get some fertile eggs.

gorgeous! i love pygmys! I wish that i was able to get one that i seen at the petshop in my town awhile back! :) i would love to have a pair soon! :) they could live perfectly in my glass terrarium! :)

Thank you, I probably wouldn't use a 20gal vert conversion kit for pygmy's again though unless I drilled it for exhaust fans.
I got a surprise last week too!

Thats awesome. I have 2 little babies to. 1 made it out but passed so i was left with 2 out of 3 eggs. After i came back from vacation i found 3 quite large eggs. Im hoping they will hatch any day now. Then i have 1 egg that i watched my little female lay, and then lol i found one egg on top of the soil at the bottom. Has not molded over or anything so it could be saved. Who knows.

More pics?:D:p

Is it a good idea to have standing water in the enclosure? I think they are leaf lickers and they could fall in the water or get parasites/ickies from the water dish.

well one only managed to get it's nose out of the shell then gave out, and I found one dead yesterday, which is a bummer but their so delicate that it wasn't a huge shock. One seems to be doing great and the other is a little iffy but I'm thinking that if they survive another week or so there chances of making it to adulthood will triple, so I've got my fingers crossed.

but enough bad news here's a few more really cute close ups
(I've been leaving them to themselves these photos were just when I moved them into a clean kritter keeper)

and as far as the standing water question goes, I'm not sure why I put that in their originally. I might have used the dish for putting feeder wax and phenox worms in, it's not in their now and I don't remember taking it out either?

Thanks for looking
