You need a digital thermometer-the kind with a probe. The analog theremometers are junk. Put the probe on his basking spot and measure the temp.

It seems that the cage is short, and your veiled would outgrow it very soon. The taller the better, look into getting at least a 24 high but 36 to 48 is better. Also if you put a live safe plant in there you can really boost your humidity, which will help with shedding and stress and the overall well being of your chameleon.

you can make a nice cheap one by poking a hole in the bottom of a paper cup and setting it on top of the cage. it is always best to leave a constant source of water. sometimes i think my jacksons had enough water for the day but when i reset his dripper he will not hesitate to drink. other times he did have enough water and will ignore it. you just never know.
