My Sweet Boy Dewey Passed Away Yesterday

About a month ago I noticed Dewey my oustaleti’s wrist was swollen and took him right in to the vet. I was worried about gout. It was not gout but a bone infection. Dr Doug opened it up and scrapped out all the infection and did a biopsy. He also had blood work and multiple x-rays on several different vet visits. His last visit was Friday afternoon and Dr. Doug thought he was improving, although I was very concerned that his eyes were looking sunk in some. Doug put fluid under his skin and told me to keep him well hydrated which I had been doing since he was on the antibiotic Clindamycin. Fri evening and Sat morning I gave him an extra full syringe of water, had only been giving him one and dripping his nose with the dropper. He looked the same Sat morning but by lunch time he looked bad and passed really fast for a chameleon. I feel like such a failure. Dewey was only 10 months old. I am so sad. I loved my big boy so much and was really looking forward to having him grow more and be my big gentle giant. Dr. Doug will do a nerscopy in the morning. Hopefully we will find out more about what happen.

So very sorry, Jann. Dewey was adorable. His passing at such a young age is tough. But I know you do the best you can for all the creatures in your care. You’re not a failure, but I’m sure your heart feels that way right now. RIP sweet Dewey.

So very sorry @jannb . You are definitely not a failure. With all the knowledge you spread here and watching all us newbies get going with your advice. I'm very sorry for you loss and hope you don't get too discouraged. Sounds like you did everything you could.

I’m so sorry to hear. You always speak so lovingly about all your chameleons. It’s a great thing that he was so loved and well taken care of. Although short, I’m sure he lived a wonderful life with you.

I am really out of the loop as I did not even know you had Dewey! Shame on me. He was so cute! So sorry he pased away. I know he was loved and cared for by you in his short, little life. I hope Dr. Doug can give you some answers.

I'm so sorry Jann!! He was a very handsome boy! You did all you could and at least you know he had a great little life even if it ended way too soon. Hopefully Dr Doug can give you some answers. RIP Dewey

I'm so sorry to hear about this. We all know you did everything you could have for him. That's so sad. He was a beautiful cham.

Thank you all again for the condolences for the loss of our sweet boy Dewey. He was one of my husbands favorites and of course I loved Dewey allot, too. He was such a sweet boy. Here’s a few of my last photos of Dewey from last month.

So sorry to hear about your loss! I have no doubt at all you did everything you could. With all animals, humans included, sometimes things just happen that are out of our control. I really hope Dr. Doug got you some answers about what caused this. My heart goes out!

Thank you all for the kind words and support. It means allot to me.

Dr. Doug found little cyst throughout Dewey’s body filled with infection, so the infection had spread and that’s what took him from me at such a young age. I miss my sweet boy so much.

I'm sorry that happened. I have been considering going with an oustalet as my number 2 down the road and will be happy if I can be half the owner you are. Keep in the game and Dewey will be remembered through what you teach us.
