My Trioceros jacksonii merumontanus group

WOW I never knew you had that many Jackson's, what an amazing looking little bunch. That Male is so Bad@ass.

I always wanted a Dwarf Rhino, I think a Jackson Chameleon will have to do in a year or two.

Hi Benny, so glad to here youre doing so well with the Merus they are fantastic little chams. Could you please give me a little advice Im really wanting to know if my Sophie is gravid, I tried to mate her a couple of times back in February never actually saw her mate thou. She was 18months old and weighed 23grams which she had been for the last couple of months. Now 6.5months later is looking preety plump & now weighs 35grams putting on approx 2grams every month. Her colour hasnt changed really but not sure if this is normal? Can you please let me know what you think.
Thanks so much Heatherxxx

She's probably gravid- but I must say taht it's always a bit difficult in my opinion to guess when merumontanus females get juveniles. I have had 2-3 cases where the females look like tennis balls with legs and tail but they don't think about getting juveniles, they wait a month or two, when I thought they were just really fat, till they give birth

@chameleonrave: I have worked with nearly 20 adult animals but the males were always bigger than the females. I have at the moment two males here which are not faar away to be longer than 20cm TL. That's for this species really much

Thanks for the info Benny. She is still eating preety well at the moment so dont think she is due yet. I just hope she will be ok Ive had her from a tiny baby, she is such a sweetie. How do you raise the juveniles Benny, is it best to keep them singly? Heatherxxx

Completely unnecessary. You can keep them the first months together. Single keeping is way too much work, housing in groups simulates some animals to eat. They should have very dense planted enclosures, a single spot (20watt maximum), a fluorescent tube and much screen for a good ventilation. I've made very good experiences with juvenile merumontanus, they were always very stable and unproblematic

Thats great that I can rear them together as you say makes life a little easier. Ive some all screen cages that I keep some of my pygmy species in so will use these. Thanks a lot Benny.Heatherxxx

Hey Ben, how's about an update ;)
How many jacksons do you still have?
Did that female give birth to any babies, if so how many? And how are they doing?

:Sigh:, these have got to be about my favorite (sub)species of chameleon. The mere sight of them makes my heart flitter. One day I hope very much to have a large breeding group as you're doing Benny, and to dedicate my efforts to them. That'll be a few years at least, until I move back to the mainland. Until them, my T. j. xantholophus are pretty darn beautiful :)
