my 5 month old Male veiled for some reason rests on the ground of his inclosure. i misst him 1-2 times a day. his eyes are not sunk in. i saw him dring water for about 30 min yesturday. hes still gren looking. but i did not have a UVB bulb, so i got one sat. Beccause somone said his arms look bendy. he ate yesturday, dusted crickets, hes been eating fine. for about three days hes been resting in very weird positions. His arms and legs seam to have lost some muscle size. he, hept on resting properly, but head tward the ground. he slept on a vine the right way last night. any ideas. so hes been under a UVB lamp for two days.

Sounds to me like he has severe metabolic bone disease. Just because hes been under a uvb bulb for two days doesn't mean that will rule out a possibility of him having mbd. If you havnt been using a ubv bulb or putting him out in natural UNFILTERED sunlight i'd say he certainly has mbd. Post some pics of him if you can. I would get this guy to the vet for some calcium injections if i were you.

whats wrong with unfiltered sunlight? isnt that what they get in the wild? is that the best?

What Nico meant, Josh, was if he hasn't had a uvb bulb and if he hasn't been exposed to unfiltered sunlight - then he's going to be a sick lizard.

I'd second that. I'm sorry skaj, you were either given bad information by a pet store, or not given any information at all, but these animals need uvb not just to thrive but to survive. If you're cham has gone several months without uvb, I'd get him into a vet pronto. He may require liquid calcium to turn his metabolic bone disease around.

If you didn't supply UVB then this is a very bad matter you know it's actually rather irritating to think somebody would purchase an animal without having the right information and equipment. I pitty your cham. Sorry it's harsh but true.

If its MBD the sooner you start to correct it the better for the chameleon. A vet should be able to tell you if that is what's wrong with your chameleon. If it is your chameleon can be given injections of calcium until its blood levels are high enough that a shot of calcitonin can be given to draw the calcium back into the bones.

What brands of supplements do you use?

I scheduled to see a vet tomarrow. So thats good, hes not too far along on MBD. He was resting on the groung for about an hour the went back to climbing, and remained there all day but, he sits inoi weird positions. I have asked before in this forum if a 100Watt Metal Helide bulb was good enough. But i was lazy not to look on the box my self. The good new is he is eating and drinking and will hopfully recover.

I will post pics in the next day or two. I also removed the milar i had on the walls. I will keep all you guys updated.

yes you did, hes still walking around and climbing but is just slow. you think he might not make it?

Even with a calsium shot?

Can you post a picture please?

What supplements do you use (be specific please) and how often?
What do you feed to the insects and gutload with (be specific again, please)?

Is this the chameleon with the somewhat unconventional enclosure, surrounded by plastic sheeting (your photo below)? Did you purchase a UVB tube bulb or coil? In your previous threads you show his enclosure, and ask about using the milar for walls, unless I was misunderstanding your threads (linked here below the photo).
