Looks like a Parsonicus Snackius to me.
It might take a parson to eat these suckers! They are big! That’s why I’m trying to properly I’d them, they would make a great addition to my chams wild caught feeders diet. Wouldn’t take more than one or two of these to fill her up!

I wonder what kind of chameleon it would take to eat these grasshoppers.

The genus Schistocerca. Schistocerca obscure sounds good to me. That species is native to Louisiana. The bug guide pictures of Schistocerca Obscura look like the grasshoppers you have.

That’s it! How are you navigating on BugGuide? There are so many variables its kind of overwhelming when your just starting out. Are you using the ID Request page or going about it some other way?

I already had an idea what the genus was of your grasshopper. Then I just searched the bug guide. I started with the one mentioned above, Schistocerca obscura, and it appeared to match the or ID with your pictures. I was not to technical with the ID.

Do you have some sort of background in identification?

Yeah! While attending classes and earning my Bachelors degree at UC Davis, I learned how to key and ID plants, insects and mammals etc.. Although I did not earn a degree in this field I did learn the basic principles and techniques.

That’s awesome! I really appreciate the time you have been taking to help me identify these last few bugs, it has put my mind at ease. I’ll defanitly have some more coming your way soon!
