Myths?

I'm going to repticon in jan and it's going to happen, I know it, I'll buy one. I don't know what I'm getting, but I want a panther for sure. I really want a nosy b. I've spent so much money already on Frita what's another Cham gonna hurt. I can't stop reading about them, this is the last year of my BSN and I've researched more on chams than my school work. I'm obsessed.

I was going to start a new thread for this but chameleons hibernating??
This sounds ridiculous to me but I got a pair of F. Campani and I was looking around on Wikipedia and such trying to figure out the best terrain for them. Wiki claims that they are submontane and terrestrial, and also hibernate during the malagasy winter. I just can't believe this but it cited a source that seems reliable. It's available to view online. But yeah so they claim that they bury themselves in leaf litter during the winter, thoughts on this??

I haven't heard it but it is possible.
Parsons brumate.

If campani do "hibernate" it wouldn't be this time of year. The eastern and central parts of the island are in the middle of the warm rainy season now.
They can be found at some of the higher elevations like Ankaratra and Andringitra so temperatures should be reduced for those collected there.
All the Chameleons in Madagascar go through some type of seasonal change its just that most people do not follow the seasons.

I have been obsessed with chams since I was around 4 or 5 years of age..before even seeing one in real life, with a kid's imagination I used to picture one walking across the floor. The way I used to imagine it was a chameleon sporting the precise same patterns of the floor tiles. The spots of the patterns on the cham would stay in the same place while the cham moved obviously replacing the pattern he just walked over with the new surface! Would be bloody impossible to find and pointless to own one. I must have got that picture in mind from a cartoon or something...other myths depicted by animation are the tail curling up towards their back and the tongue rolling out :)

There is a cartoon my son watches on netflix called the hungry caterpillar which is a collection of short stories but one is on a chameleon. After watching it he asked if Frita was going to change into a polar bear. Had to go watch it lol it's really cute. For Cham lovers with kids it's great to show them. Growing up we never had pets, now I own geckos, my Cham, and a king snake on the way.

Where to start!

"Superworms will eat their way out of your lizard."
"Reptiles love/need company/cagemates."
"Reptiles will stay proportionate to the size of their cage, so you can use a small one."
"Colloidal silver can be used to cure anything! From RIs to parasites."
"Chameleons can change to match their unnatural surroundings, such as a person's striped shirt or the patterned curtains."
"A humane way to euthanize a reptile is to put it in the freezer."

And several more! They usually apply to many pet reptiles, not just chameleons. These myths are persistent (or gaining traction)!
The scary thing is I was reading lots of books on chameleons from a library at uni and in one of the books it says a painless way to euthanaise a reptile is to wrap it in a blanket and put it in a freezer :( why are they publishing books with this info in? p.s as far as i knew books have to go through loads of checks before they published if they are about animal care/keeping?

Olimpia, a guy at a pet shop where I get my feeders Told me Not to feed superworms, because the Chams insides and acids won't digest if not kill. Then thats why I'm a member on this site...

I wish pet stores held their employees to a higher standard of the employees knowledge of the animals and products they sell.
