Natural Sunlight vs uv lights

Hi i live in the philippines and sunlight is sufficient... I know a guy who places his chameleon in the garden with only a net and no cage... he doesnt use any uv lights or heating lights is it possible to do so? if so how much sunlight does the panther chameleon need?

Natural sunlight is perfectly fine (and in many cases preferable).

As long as your temperatures are right (generally sunny in the 70s-80s) you do not need a heat lamp or a UV bulb. That is implying that your chameleon lives in the sunlight all the time (that is, he gets a "full" day cycle)

However, if your nighttime temps drop into the low 50s or below, that might be a concern.

Sunlight is ALWAYS preferable! ;) There is no contest, artificial UVB lights are pathetic in comparison and a chameleon will always be healthier and happier in sunlight if he can help it.

Only the chameleon knows how much sunlight it needs, and will move from direct sun to shade accordingly to regulate his own levels of vitamin D3. But at least a few hours daily is necessary.

Like Evillost said, as long as your temperatures stay warm there should be no problem. If it's too warm you can set up a mister outside that will go off maybe a few times an hour to cool off an area and provide them with lots of water daily, so they can do well in 90*F+ weather. And then if it gets too cold you can bring them inside.

I am going to move within the next month and will set all my chameleons outside as well. I did it last year and I noticed that everyone seemed much more active, colorful, and healthy than in cages, so I will do it again as soon as I can.
