Nautilus died last night

Olimpia

Biologist & Ecologist
I woke to find my little boy Nautilus dead in his separate free range. Yesterday he appeared to be fine, perhaps not as active as usual but I chalked it up to me messing with his lights. I figured he might not be as warm as usual. At any rate, it was nothing that alarmed me. But this morning he was dead :( He was a year old this May 5th.

I'll be taking everyone else in for a check-up as soon as they'll give me an appointment to make sure everyone else is doing fine.

Will you be doing a necropsy?

I don't know, but I'm leaning towards not doing it. I would rather put the money towards getting everyone else checked out/treated if need be over finding out what caused his death but I'm not sure that's the most intelligent decision. I wish I had unlimited funds but Charlotte's whole tongue ordeal has nearly depleted my emergency funds.

So sorry for your loss Olympia.....he was one gorgeous boy :(

I have my fingers crossed that the rest of your crews check ups go well and without a hitch.

So sorry for your loss.

With sudden deaths like that a necropsy might be a good idea.

Sorry for your loss. So strange that at his age looking so healthy, sounds like something that could happen to a newborn. Maybe he just injested something wrong. Hope your other guys check out!

Perhaps the vet will do it for free or for a discounted rate because of how rare it would be to do a necropsy on a chameleon?? He could be "donated for science" so to speak?

Thanks everyone. He was a year old but was the smallest of my chams. I'm really going to miss him, he was a pretty sweet little guy.

Pssh, I guess it's worth asking about. I'll call them again tomorrow morning to see if we can talk about a necropsy.

Oh my gosh Olimpia, I am SO sorry to hear that. He was a gorgeous, gorgeous boy. That must have been very shocking for you and I am so sorry that you had no kind of indication that this was going to happen.
I hope he is climbing high in a big beautiful tree up in Cham Heaven.

What a horrible thing to have happen. It is bad enough when we have some warning, but to just lose him like that. He did good and healthy from all I can see. I know you do a great job providing correct care for your chams. I am really really sorry.

Oh Olimpia im sorry to hear, and my condolenses really go to you... It is hard to find out about "sudden incidents" like these. ANd hope the rest of your group checks out okay, and maybe can find out what really happened, but do what you gotta do first:eek:
