Near death experience :(

To top it off, it looks like they sent you a male not a female.

How is the little guy doing today?

Cheers,
t

Am so sorry to hear of his demise. We grow so close to these guys so quickly, especially when trying to nurse them back to health.

I would say that if you purchased a female, and they sent you a male, then they are obligated to make that right. Some sort of arrangement should be agreed to. Althought the seller would probably offer you some credit toward a future purchase...:(

Roni, sorry about your loss. You gave it a good try but it sounds like she was too far gone. I can't speak for the seller but people that sell mutiple species of wild caught animals rarely have the animals or the buyers best interest in mind. Before you purhase another chameleon, run it by the forum. We know who the good guys are.

What an eye you have Trace! (lets see some of that artwork you never have a chance to do. I sing the same song:()

I did a quick Google search of "Danielle Fields Geckos" and found some interesting reading material.

There is certainly some sort of skullduggery afoot! (multiple names, many complaints about "improper shipping/packaging", animals paid for yet never received etc.)

Let the buyer be ... WHAT??? (lots of great breeders right here on the forum, no need to look for a "bargain")

exactly you may pay a little more but its well worth it give kammers,fl cham etc. the business these guys are a pleasure to do business with and they are very knowledgable

I'm so sorry Roni,

I've been following this thread to see how your little guy would turn out. I know, it is so heartbreaking.

Listen to these folks on the forum and get your next cham from Kammers or FLchams, etc.

The little extra bit of money you spend is worth it. That heartbreak is not worth the money you saved.

I am so sorry for your loss!!! I can't believe someone would let that happen. You did your absolute best to save him. Poor little cutie. He was good looking and at least his last hours were spent in loving hands. You will find another one that is just right. Maybe Mike at FlChams will have more soon.

Due to the new changes to the server, I didn't get the forums back until just now. Roni, I'm so sorry that "sicky" didn't make it. You did your very best with an extremely difficult situation and I wouldn't have done any better. I know your foray into chameleons has been hard, but don't let it dissaude you from trying again when you are ready.

My condolences,
Trace

Also, if this has been a repeated occurrence, as it sounds it has, you may want to contact Kingsnake and see if they can prevent their advertising or at least give a warning. It's likely not possible, but may be worth a try.

In the future make sure when you are shipped a chameleon that it is packaged in a bag with moist newspaper/foam/moss. A deli cup should never be used for chameoleons, infact, very rarely will I use a deli for any lizard during shipping, the heat can't escape. Also check to see if you can have it held for pickup at FedEx/DHL/UPS/USPS during summer temps.

If your shipping an animal, use THICK foam (at least 3/4" thick), and look into using the foam with the reflective layer, it sends the radient heat right back out. Look for the latest drop off, I am lucky and can drop of packages as late at 10 pm! And of course, cool packs, wrapped up in several layers of newspaper.
