Need a little help

Some marine grade paint should seal it up nicely. That what I use on the inside of my tortoise enclosures. I can use GE#1 silicone for any joints then put a few coats of marine grade paint or that water proofing paint called killz. Both are perfectly fine once dried and given a week or so to air out any fumes.

Yeah I can put a false bottom on it... basically where the curtains are and put the drain there with the buckets and the misting system. I can cover that section of the doors with bamboo so you don't see the Buckets.

maybe one of the other keepers that has converted a hutch or cabinet will Chime in on how they did it .

Sounds like you're onto the right track. These animal's enclosures put a beating on wood. You seem to know what to do, but I'd go extra on all waterproofing measures. Also feeders will likely chew stuff on the inside over time.

Please share photos Like to see what you come up with because it sounds amazing!

I made a deal for $150 on that cabinet. I'll be able to start on that project in a few days. I need a few more days to finish tiling my master shower then it's game time for that enclosure

Actually, I built the enclosure from scratch, but it is the same concept. Drainage and airflow are challenging. Of course when you have water and wood together you can have other issues.
Have you had issues with it ? Or had to re-seal it ? How is it with feeders do they love the wood ?

Sweet can't wait to see it all done . Be sure to post as you go along .

I'm sealing mine with 3 different products.

Step 1 is to use GE#1 silicone to seal joints and cracks. It hardens like a rock so the animal can't get pieces of it to eat.

Step 2 is to use 3 coats of a product called Red Guard. It's awesome... it paints on bright pink and drys in like 1 hr and turns deep red. The cool thing is it dries like rubber so it still flex able to slow for expansion and contraction but is 100% water tight.

Step 3 is to paint over the red guard with killz or marine grade paint, probably the killz since it's Cheaper and has anti mold capibilites. This will leave the inside white instead of that red. The white will help reflect the light around.

I'm redoing the shower in my master right now and a buddy turned me on to this red guard product. It's expensive but works great.
