my baby girl has been digging for a couple days laying her first clutch. Today is the first day she had really gone to town & she's been digging a significant hole all day. She should lay them any time really soon now. It's time now tonight where i usually shut her lights off for bed. Do I keep them on as to not disturb her digging for the night? Or shut them off & make it dark, then she'll stop & go to sleep?? Will she dig through the night with the lights on then just stop & sleep say, if she is done in the middle of the night?? Thanks for the help!

Thank you both! I was honestly going to keep them on just because I was afraid if she stopped she might not continue with this hole & not lay them. But turning them off makes sense. Thanks again! Let's be hope tomorrow goes well with digging

Hi there my girl just laid her first clutch . She dug a few days dug every one of her pots . I as well was worried about turning her lights off , @Nursemaia @Matt Vanilla Gorilla @jannb were my coaches all three said turn lights off . She did go to sleep in one of her holes , In the Am she went up to her basking spot . When she warmed up she went back and laid . She took a few days . Hope all gos well with your girl .

Thank you, @Kristen Wilkins ! She was digging for a while after her lights went off but I think she has stopped. She's been doing such a good job & digging so much the past few days. I'm stressed enough for the both of us about this Thanks again

It may take her longer than you expect. I don't think chameleons start digging the exact day they are going lay, sometimes maybe yeah, but from what I have read and helped with on here it seems the norm for them to start a few days ahead and dig a few test holes, the. One day they just buckle down and start digging up a storm, sometimes it can take two days of digging one or multiple holes and the when you likely aren't even thinking about it, it's done and over with and they are up there waiting for a snack. They often know what their body needs far better than we do. We just gotta provide what makes them able to do it. Can drive us crazy, but just do a lot of stuff that helps with obsessive and anxious thoughts. Because if she's only been digging a few days you have nothing to worry about at the moment and she will very likely lay just fine this time. Here's hoping for you and your girl, love from all of us over at my house.

I completely understand Frances was 3 days of digging . I was so very anxious thank goodness for @Matt Vanilla Gorilla and @Nursemaia im positive I drove them nutty !!. I had a bit of a hard time finding the eggs she did dig right to bottom I dumped the whole laying bin . So if you are not Aware check the bottom .

This is very true or at least for Frances . She dug over 3 days . Holes in every pot little and big and acual lay bin . One night she slept in the very bottom of bin . Popped out heated up and started in another bin . I was so worried nothing was adequate for her . Finally day 4 she laid . Nothing about the experience was how I pictured . She dug huge hole Half her dirt out of her big pot not just a little tunnel pulled plants outa little pots covered pots with leafs . She didn't even look like she laid .

That's how the real mom's of the animal kingdom do it. Destroy everything, finish the actual deed in like an hour, come up and ask for a drink and some food. Go about the day's business.
Yup that's for sure . It was really amazing she covered everything up like nothing happened . She looked great a tad dehydrated she had hornworms extra Calcium and a few extra misting . She's doing fantastic .

I think my baby girl has laid her eggs! She's has been digging for a few days but like I said, yesterday she was digging a very significant hole. Went to bed, continued digging for a while. We woke up & she kept going I believe. I left for work & when I came back the big hole was covered & mounted over, she was up by her lights & definitely wanted to eat. I'm leaving the bin in there a little while just to be sure & in case she didn't. I kick myself for not weighing her before this all happened. That will not be a mistake next time around. But she appears skinnier. She's done so well & I am so so happy the bin was good enough. Thank you all for your advice & such

Sounds very much like a female who has just laid like 1/4-1/3 of her body weight in eggs ^^. Totally important to feed her well and healthy over the next week just to get back some lost strength, mist her well the next few days (would strongly recommend a shower too). She has done good the first time ^^ she definitely deserves a spa day

lol I meant mounded over btw. But yes, definitely! I also have a one more odd question. My boyfriend won't be home until Friday, so 4 days from now. We both care for her & he would love to be there when I dig & find the eggs. Would it be bad to leave them in the bin wherever they may be until then? Will they go bad? If so it's completely fine for me to, he just wants to be there & help. lol.

I dug my first batch up immediately, second clutch I waited a few days. I wouldn't think there's a difference. In the wild they stay underground for months, and dig their way up! Pretty hard to imagine one of these little guys digging all that way to reach the light.

Makes sense. theyre infertile & my only thought was if they might just go bad or something. If that's a thing? This is a first for me & my Luna. Clearly. but I think I'll try to wait to dig them til this weekend. thanks :)
