Chameleon Info:
• Josh, male Veiled, approx 1 year 2 mos. When I got him he was smaller than my thumb.
• Handling – I do not handle him
• Feeding – I feed him as much as he’ll eat- he’s been pretty picky for several months since he got his colors. He eats a couple of super worms a day, usually accepts a hornworm, or two is small. Usually a grasshopper every other day. Lately he’s been eating crickets again (finally, after months) but he just won’t eat Dubias (and by now I have a bunch).I gut load well with fresh veggies from my organic garden- carrots, collards, kale, apples, etcc
• Supplements – I use Flukers, a little calcium on each hornworm, and cricket, an about 2 x a week mix the calcium with vitamin
• Watering – He hates being misted unless he’s shedding. I have a dripper I run about 4 oz through every day, but never see him drink it, so I generally get him to drink using a long dropper type thing so I’m sure he has water.
• Fecal Description – Nicely formed, with plenty of white.
• History – He was waaayyyy too young to be sold, so when I saw him I had to rescue him. He hasn’t been a good eater for a few months- well, not compared to the female I used to have. But he does have a stool every day, so he’s obviously eating.
Cage Info:
• Cage Type – Currently screen 12 x 24 x 28
• Lighting – 14 hours on, use incandescent for heat, tube and Repti glow for UVB
• Temperature – I try to get it down to 70-75 at night. Basking spots around 95, ambient temp in the day is going up to 80 now, but trying to keep it cooler.
• Humidity – 50% at basking spot. Humidity has been easier this summer during the winter I used a fogger to keep it that high.
• Plants – I have a few I rotate under the dripper. Spider plants and wheat grass (for the grasshoppers). There’s a pothos that stays in there
• Placement – He’s in my office in front of a window this summer, so I can open the window and he can get some natural light. During the winder I had him in the corner. I’m the only traffic. His enclosure sits on a table that’s about 3’ tall.
• Location – Washington state
Current Problem – It’s time to get him a bigger enclosure, but I need advice. I don’t want something that’s flimsy, or hard to work with. I was thinking about this PennPlax one with the acrylic door, mostly because I figure if it is sturdy enough to hold the plexi, it might have more body to it. Plus, it’s not easy keeping humity and heat in the winter, and thought it might help. But of course worried about his catching reflection in it. Then there are the others. But looking for expert advice.
I have uploaded the enclosures I'm looking at as well as a baby picture of Josh, and one of him dreaming a couple of months ago to facebook:
