Need advice on Panther cham

Hi all,

Im new to this world and I am thinking on geting a panther cham cause i love them and i read that they are nice for beginers.
I live in a warm portuguese island, Madeira Island, where the temperature variates between 25Cº - 75F ( max ) and 15ºC - 60 F ( min ). The humidity is most of the times above 60/70%.
I´ve been reading a lot about them but i want to ask you some advice, so please be patient with my noobish and answer some of my answers.:

1- Im buying a male, any advice on subspecie ? I love to buy a juvenile one so it can be esaily tamed, wich age is apropiated?

1 - For home i am thinking on byuing the exo terra terrarium, natural terrarium Medium/X Tall - PT 2608 - 18x24x36 inch, do you think it´s ok for him?

2- Then ill buy a ligthing fixture where i can put 2 lamps - http://www.exo-terra.com/en/products/linear_top.php
Wich lamps shall i put in there? One for heat, and other for light, right? No idea about this...

3- I will put some natural dead woods and some vines, etc, and i want to have a natural plant but dont know wich one is the best. Please give me some types of plants that i can put in the terrarium.

4- Im thinking on buying a moonsoon mister from Exo terra to keep humidity. - http://www.exo-terra.com/en/products/monsoon_rs400.php -is it ok?

5- I will try to breed darkling beetle worms, and locusts to feed him. Is there an alternative or another non live food that he will eat? like fruits etc?

6- What vitamins and how often shall i gutload or dust the insect food?

Not sure on the subspecies part. On the cage part- no. Get a ReptiBreeze XL (24"x24"x48") or something similar or even larger. Get a heat lamp (a simple house bulb has been used) and a UVB bulb, to help digest calcium.
Calcium. Ahh, the big one. Get 2 kinds, the one with and without vitamin D3. The without is every day, the with is every 2 weeks. Definitely get a male, even though they are larger, they are easier to care for. A juvie or even an older baby would be preferable. Ficus and Pothos are by far the easiest. They grow like crazy and are the simplest to care for. Monsoon is an eh. I've heard good and bad things. Some say it lasts only 2 months, others say they've had theirs for more than a year.
CRICKETS. They are pesky little bugs, but in abundance feed your Cham easily. Mealworms are a treat of occasion, as they are hard to digest. Dubai Roaches are good and can be found at many stores.

A couple additional important things to consider before buying a chameleon:

Will you have access to an experienced vet? Find this out ahead of time, don't wait until you are in trouble.
Where will you be able to buy your insect feeders? Panthers are not known to eat much plant material. Some do learn to like fruit but it will never make up the bulk of its diet. Don't count on it. Find out where you will be able buy feeders reliably, or plan to raise them yourself. Taking care of a cham means taking care of hundreds of insects too!

I guys tks for the help. Meanwhile i´ve purchased a ReptiBreeze XL (24"x24"x48"), and a dualtop exo terra lightning fixture that Fits two Fluorescent Bulbs and one or two Sun Glo Halogen Basking Spot Lamp(s). I need advice on the lamps wich i shall put in it: I think i shall use a reptisun 2.0 + a reptisun 5.0, and then maybe 2 hallogen lamps for heating. is this corret? If yes waht hallogen lamps to choose? 25 wts? 35?

im also trying to breed locusts and soon will start with crickets and mealworms.

Also make sure you buy a thermometer to check the temperatures of his enclosure as well as the humidity. Panther have a variety of colors depending on there origins. For say Nosey Be's tend to have a blue with a yellow outline in their mouth on some. Ambilobes colors can vary red bar, blue bar etc check with your breeder for exact info. Ambanjas are mainly blue with some hints of red and yellow and are known for having dark blueish/purple stripes. Nosey Falys have a blue coating with red dots over their body (aka red rain)and can also have a yellow outline surrounding their mouth. Sambava Panther chameleons tends to have orange coloration with yellow.They are more Panther chameleons Nosey Mitsios,tamatave,etc but I won't recommend this as beginner as they might be harder to get or maintain (but you are more than welcome to google these as their colors are unique and awesome).Anyways good luck with getting everything set-up and if you have any questions let us know.

You will probably only need one basking light so that the cage doesn't get to warm since he also needs to have areas to get out of the heat. I would look at the package of the halogen lamps to see if they show the heat gradient compared to the distance from the bulb then compare that to the care sheet for basking and ambient temps for the chameleon.
