Chameleon Info:
  • Your Chameleon - Ambilobe Panther, male about 9 weeks. I have been taking care of him for two weeks.
  • Handling - I have only handled him twice, once to put him in his cage, and another to get him off of the top of the cage when he was under the basking bulb.
  • Feeding - Small crickets about 3 weeks old, putting out 15 per day, he eats about 8. The crickets are gut loaded with kale at the moment. I use a feeder cup since his cage is large for him.
  • Supplements - Using Reptical w/o d3 at every feeding, Reptical with d3 every other week, and reptivite every other week. (only have had him two weeks so he has only gotten w/d3 and reptivite once).
  • Watering - I have a starter kit mist king setup that comes on at 10:30am, 2:30, and 6:30 for a minute and half each period. I see my chameleon drinking sometimes, every once in awhile I see him trying to drink and hand mist near him when the cage is drying out.
  • Fecal Description - My cham has not been tested for parasites, I got him from the chameleon company which seems like a reputable breeder. His droppings are black and white, a couple have had a little orange but not much.
  • History - I am the original owner since getting him from Chameleon Company.

Cage Info:
  • Cage Type - He has a 2'x2'x4' screen cage from lllreptile. He seems to be fine in the big cage, stays near the top almost all of the time.
  • Lighting - I have a 10" Flukers sun dome with Zoo Med 75w bask bulb,
18" Reptisun 5.0 UVB bulb and his lights come on at 9:30am and go out between 9:30-10pm.
  • Temperature - His basking spot averages at 91 degrees, the breeder recommended to continue using basking temps. of low 90's. His ambient temps are 80 at the top, and lower to 70 at the bottom. The lowest temp. at night is around 65. I use a Fluke electronics temperature gun, and a couple analog guages as well.
  • Humidity - Humidity ranges from 60-80% rarely a spike in humidity will reach 85% at the very bottom of the enclosure, but lowers pretty quickly.I am maintaining these percentages with a mist king system, misting times stated above.
  • Plants - I have a 4' Schefflera in the cage he always hangouts on, some fake vines, zoo med vines, and fake bamboo horizontal perches for him to bask on.
  • Placement - The cage is located in out bedroom, relatively low traffic in there. The top of his cage is about 6' off of the floor.
  • Location - We are located in Eastern Washington.

Current Problem - He seems to have goop on the outside of one of his eyes, it has been there for three days now. In the pictures it is it the small white spot next to his eye. I have searched the forums for similar issues but nothing has come up that looks the same in other peoples posted pictures. I have read that people use warm wet cue tips to take care of stuff around the eyes but wanted to be sure this was not any form of infection or eye problem before trying to get rid of it. I am a first time cham owner so sorry if this is a non issue and I am taking too much precaution.

First, you can use a wet Q-tip to try to dab it away from the eye in case it is just a piece of shed. Be careful! If the discharge keeps showing up there is probably an infection. There's no way to diagnose what type of bacteria is causing the problem so you'll need a vet to examine it. There are optical antibiotics they can give to treat it, but doing a sensitivity test first will be best.
