Need help on Breeder

Hey Everyone,

I plan on getting a veiled chameleon very soon and I went to our reptile show and there was only 1 breeder selling CB Veileds. A friend of mine told me that if I wanted to breed chameleons, they shouldn't be from the same clutch. I started looking online for a breeder and found LLLReptiles and FlChams. This same friend told me that if I were to take care of chameleons, I might have a couple deaths in the beginning. I want to get chams from FlChams for their color but I dont want them to die easily. The prices at LLLReptiles are cheap but their chams aren't my taste of color. Any suggestions?

As long u got all ur cage set up correctly n have lots proper size feeder gutloaded
It shall be fine for a beginner like u,personally I prefer 3month and older ,they are lots great breeders out there,the choice will be for u to decide.
 
Like alphakenc said, if you have your set up, lights, temps, supplementation, and feeders correct, you shouldn't have "a couple deaths." Have you looked on both kingsnake.com and faunaclassifieds.com? They usually have plenty of listings. There's also FB groups, though I always recommend asking the breeder what their set ups are like and how they have been caring for the babies. You want to start off with an older baby if you can, one that can handle shipping well and you can easily find feeders for.

I would focus on getting one chameleon first and making sure you can properly care for it before jumping into breeding. Do you have everything already set up for the little guy or gal?
 
What they said and also start by breeding insects. As you are going to need a whole lot of them.

Also just a heads up breeding Veileds is pretty much a money losing venture so be for warned.

Also FL Chams is closed for business ATM. I have heard it is temporary I am not sure beyond they are not taking orders.

U like a diaper on my ass since last night lol,how do u know FL chams is closed for business???
I say they are open ,their website still up!

Easy I just tried to buy a Cham from them last month lol. There phone is disconnected they are not replying to emails or Facebook. someone on their Facebook that is friends with the owners said it was a "Temporary Hiatus".

I am not on you lol, I am on the threads that pop up :), plus I loves ya Alpha :), just becasue we disagree one time doesnt mean nothing I aint mad at ya.

However they did recently delete all those comments so idk maybe they are back up? I would try to call them before you order though.

A 2 month old cham is a risky prospect for someone new to chams. Even more experienced keepers can lose some at this age. There are often a couple of babies in a clutch that are not be destined to survive depending on how healthy the parents were. They are easier to dehydrate, to overheat, and tiny food isn't as easy to manage.

You don't want to breed siblings for obvious reasons...defects and mutations start showing up more often if you breed too closely within lines..
 
I've been hearing similar things about FlChams for a while now. I'm not sure what is going on, but until they actually start responding to communication, I wouldn't order from them. Last thing you want is something to go hinky during shipping and you can't get a hold of them.

Agreed 100%, the order can go through I think? However if they dont have time to talk to me they dont have time to get my money lol. Now if it does go through when you will get the cham IDK.

And the fact they haven't made a statement on FBook or there site and delete comments pertaining to it is sketch.
 
That is correct what Carlton said,I will suggest at least 3month and older,another reason for that is easy to find the proper feeders size as the cham are older to taking bigger feeder!!
 
Defiantly with them on the 3 months thing as well. I got my cham from LLL, I dont think he was even 2 months TBH, he is fine and well now but it has been a bumpy road.

It wouldn't be there fault, they dont breed they buy wholesale and sell. So if the person tells them its 2 months maybe it is maybe not. You also dont know the background or health of the animal, as they cant tell you anything.

They are very nice and helpful, so I am not hating on them, the 3rd party selling is what I dont like. All my future chams are coming from breeders either here or like Chameleons Only ect.

Thats good to know,since alphakenc dont buy any chams right now cause I got too many my own,@cyberlocc I guess ur correct on this one!!

Yeah I'm not sure what's going on where they can't even let people know. Very strange. I was also looking to buy from them earlier this year but decided to go with another breeder.
 
Maybe they just temporary out of stock,Im sure they will be open again!!if not alphakenc I will start my own,Im over stock with the panther chams,not including taking care my other pets in the house!!

If you are well researched and prepared, you shouldn't need to worry about this.

Breeding should be primarily for joy. Shouldn't be worried about making money. IMO
Having said that, it is an expensive hobby, and selling some babies to provide food and or other items for your cham can definitely be a nice bonus...
