need help with humidity

Post a pic of the result. I finally got a good pic of my cham for an avatar.
Guess who forgot to get the half-inch tubing. Sigh. Back to Home Depot. Probably have to post pics tomorrow. Thanks again for all the help. And awesome avatar pic, too!

Found some tubing at home but neither of the humidifiers I tried are strong enough to move mist through the hose. I started with a wide diameter to fit the humidifier base and reduced it to fit the vivarium. Bummer.

Simple fix--shortened the hose. Back in business!

Congrats. Sometimes, you need to clean off the ultrasonic parts to get it working better. Mineral deposits build up. I use plain water and a plastic disposable knife, but some said vinegar might work?

So, I spent the weekend working on a misting system for Meagan. I started out with these supplies:

I went through some great posts on the forum, and got a tremendous amount of help from WAMBO (thanks again, man!), but I'll be damned if I could get the thing to work for more than a few minutes. Finally decided to build an old-school mistings system and used the following supplies:

A little hot glue and shower curtain...Meagan's delighted. Sometimes simpler really is better. It certainly is easier!

Dang! My Vicks humidifer worked very well, and it's 15 yrs old. If you lived in South Jersey I could give you one. I have one for each of my 3 kids, leaving me 2 extra.

What model? Maybe I can track one down. Although, I am in north Jersey... Lol

Thanks, I appreciate it! And I'm no doctor, but I work for a med school writing MSPEs.
I always wanted to play one on TV too. But seriously, I'll be working at the hospital on Saturday from 7:30am until 6pm [and my wife will usually take our teenage daughters on a shopping spree at that time], so if you wanted to make a road trip, I can bring one with me. The cell phone usually doesn't get reception because of the lead walls, but there is WiFi and I get email fast, for you to let me know you're there. [The guards won't let you in past the entrance, but they don't have guns, lol].

WAMBO, you're too cool for words. I can't thank you enough. Craziest thing just happened (seriously, like half an hour ago). I ran to Petco to get some goodies for the geckos and beardie, and the manager and I got to talking. Long story short, I walked out with a Monsoon for under $45. Never used one. I'm gonna try it out for a few days. Any thoughts or experience with them? And again, man, you rock.

Nice! I never used one, but that price sure does beat a Mist King 4.0. I assumed I would move up to a mister at some point when my panther is an adult. Oh and thanks, but I'm just a typical father, who came from a humble family background.
Mt timer is an old X10 computer system that controls multiple lights inside and out, so it can turn on and off the humidifier 20 times a day for any length of time. [There ain't much to do while lifting weights at home, so I learned how to build computers].

Will do. I'll see if I can post something tonight.
Hey Duma,
Here are some spectacular (not) pics. The glue's on pretty thick to keep a water-tight seal. I'll probably go back over it with silicone once I have a spare enclosure to put my girl into for a bit. As is, it holds in moisture pretty well. Cage furniture is a combo of fake plants and a rather surprised pothos. The wire you see on top is a cookie cooling rack to help support the weight of the dripper and lights. Read about that on the Forum!

These are great ideas. It's just a regular shower curtain? I might just do that. Question tho- does the water that gets through the screen and hits the plastic- does it pool at the bottom of the plastic or did you not glue the bottom down? What kind of sticks are those? And how the heck did you scam a monsoon for $45?!

The cookie rack is brilliant yet so simple!
I will also purchase a cookie cooling rack for the stuff that's on the top of the cage.(y)

Thanks. Wish I could take credit for them. The boards on the Forum here are amazing! Yeah, just a regular shower curtain, glued at the top, bottom, and sides. It's been holding in the water very well, so far (except in one spot I didn't glue enough). I ordered a tray for the enclosure, just to be safe.

The branches are kulu sticks. I got them at Michael's--they're by a company called Ashland. I went with these over the dark brown because these weren't dyed. I couldn't find any country of origin/manufacture info at the time, but a little research did just turn up that they are lacquered. It must be a matte, because it doesn't show. I'm not sure how safe that'll be for my little girl. Kind of a bummer. I've got more research to do. I'll keep everyone posted. If anyone knows for sure, please let me know!

And that Monsoon was pure dumb luck! They know me at the local pet stores, what with all the mouths I've got to feed, and I started chatting with one of the managers. I mentioned my misting woes and he said they were having a sale on the units. Told me he had one left in stock and he just wanted it out of the store. What can I say, he made me an offer I couldn't refuse. Can't wait to fire that sucker up and see what it can do!

Oh yeah, another cool idea I saw posted that's particularly helpful for us Reptibreeze folks is about using neodymium magnets on the end of our branches. Get some decent-sized ones, glue them to the ends of the branches and use another on the outside of the enclosure to secure it. No need for screws or wires, and no more holes in the screen. I only wish I'd seen that post sooner. I have a stack of magnets now, though...
