Neo with deformed tail. Breeders Please

no...its NOT table sugar that should be used.

Believe it or not my vet had me use VERY cold water mixed with lots of Table sugar and keep that on the prolapse. They continued it at the vet's office and got the prolapse back in on a 15 gram Jackson.

You could try pussing it back in with a mosit Qtip but it might need a stitch from the vet.
I don't think this is a realistic idea for such a small chameleon, unfortunately.
If he is already prolapsed, it is probably a structural deformity [...]
That's what I was thinking.

Either way best of luck.

Well i'm probally gonna get flamed for this but in my opinion i belive that Carbon monoxide aka Car exaust is prob the most humane form of euthanizing and not nearly as Barberic as crushing his little head.:(
In all reality head crushing is quick and painless. CO2 may not even kill the little thing and if it doesn't it just causes a lot of stress.

Thanks alot for the info on the sugar. I am headed to the vet first thing tomorrow, to see what they think they can do for him.

Wether its the hemipenes or the end of the bowel it has receeded somewhat today. I have been puttin ky on it every 4 hours or so and gently trying to coax it back in. It looks like it is to be about 50% back in from the pics I took yesterday and a little less swollen.

Great news!! I really am pushing for the little guy! Lets hope it keeps progressing.

:) Me too, I really like him.

On a happier note two more came out of the eggs today. Full tails and everything on the inside! 24 of 30 have hatched now! Not too sure about the last ones they are looking very yellowish. Hopefully they turn out to be nosy falys like momma was sold to me as. Gonna be a long wait to "proof" them though

Oh cool!! I was under the impression this was the first one out of the clutch:eek: Ill keep my fingers crossed for you on the Faly part. I know one person who got a "Faly" female but it turns out the babies are Ambanjas.

I think I saw that post a while back. Thats one reason why I want to proof em first. Was it todnedo? I think. Btw if you check out this thread man Huron is doing awesome.

Just thought I'd mention that gassing reptiles isn't the greatest method. They take forever to die, and even after 24+ hours in the chamber they can still be alive. Or at least that's what I read about it.

Also, how does everyone feel about cutting it off and gluing it with surgical glue? Only if it's the hemipenes anyways. Or is that a terrible idea because he is so little?

I'm glad he seems to be getting better! I'm rooting for the faly babies!

I was wondering myself if it could just be cauterized, if it is indeed the hemipenes. Being that it is so small at this point it would both remove and close the wound. But not too sure what would come of it in the future, when he starts to develop. Or even if he would be able to survive without them, I know I wouldn't want to!

Well, he could certainly survive without them. Many have been amputated after prolapse when they got too dry/diseased. Well, since he seems to be getting better, no need to experiment on him. :) I look forwards to see his progression into adulthood.

Do you think he may have other internal deformities?

I guess it depends on the vet. I was told not to use table sugar but the liquid sugar like dextrose. I've forgotten why.

He acts totally fine, I really think that is his only flaw, but will be able to tell better if he survives till he eats. He is on the small side compared to the rest, but not rediculously small. He is maybe 80% of average size.

Yea, Todd. The animals Ive seen for sale are turning out to be really nice looking though!

Well the vet seems to think it is indeed the hemipenes and not the bowel. She was suprised both by how little it was actually sticking out and "bright eyed and bushy tailed" he is. She does agree that the tail being deformed may cause an issue in the future. She was 50/50 on euthanasia mostly because of how active he is, he was literally trying to bite her finger off :D. Her suggestion was to let him go for the time being, but watch him closely for any signs of him or the hemipenes going downhill.

She suggested to just continue with the KY possibly try and use a smooth ice chip to push it back into place. That is what I shall do for the time being. Will let yall know if anything changes with him. Thanks for help and well wishes :).

I am glad you are giving him a chance. Try the sugar or sugar water....I too have heard that helps and nature will take it's course.

Hey I was just thinking about Huron the other day, I'm glad he's doing good.
I really liked him because he's so laid back:):)

Here he is sleeping with his brother:p

Bad idea! With that small of an area to work with it would be highly likely that you'd glue the whole vent shut inadvertently! The glue is really hard to control, even if using a tiny syringe and needle to apply it. I've seen it happen to a rabbit after a surgical correction to a torn anus with a little glue. Poor thing looked totally normal but noticed it wasn't pooping...we figured it out later and when we opened it back up tons of little pellets came pouring out! Pretty funny actually. :) But with this little guy I don't think you'd be able to do much if that did happen.

Another idea for euthonizing

If you know someone with a .22 pistol or rifle you could take it to a secluded part and take the shot it is the most humane way I can think of. But thats great that you are giving him a chance at life

I will give the sugar a try tomorrow and see what happens. It looks alot better already, I'll take another pic after a little bit of TLC tomorrow.

Thats so awesome, just like him. He is so very chilled out :D.

Poor rabbit would have made an excellent video though ;).
