Hey, I'm new to chameleon forums. i bought a male panther ambilobe chameleon from my friends friend. I set up his entire enclosure before I got him. Its a 4 foot by 2 foot by 2 foot screen cage. Its a custom cage i built with a plastic layer on the bottom. I have a Schefflera plant in his enclosure and some fake vines and branches near the top mostly. he has a repti glo (or repti sun i dont know) basking/daylight bulb and a 18 inch 5.0 repti glo uva/uvb bulb with fixture. Its set on a timer for a total light time of 12 hours, the uvb/uva bulb turns on an hour before the heat bulb does. I also have two drippers that i put on twice daily with fresh water. I mist the cage 4 times daily, but i live in florida and humidity stays around 60 in my room ( even higher in summer time, but my a/c isnt even on right now because its in the mid 70s). I was thinking of getting an automatic/timed misting system or making my own. I have calcium powder without d3 (forgot which brand, but its what everyone else uses and i know its good), calcium with d3 (i wont use this much because he will get enough d3 in the future when i take him outside, once i think its ok to actually handle him), and i have the vitamin, mineral herbavore or whatever the heck its called supplements. So yeah I had all this before I even got him.

Ive had a huge variety of snakes lizards and geckos before, and i know i can take the best care of this guy. I have wanted one for a while and i got plenty of time for him. I take care of a 25 gallon lps and sps reef tank as well, so i know what responsibilities mean. But anyways, I bought him about a week ago from my friends friend, and I was told that he was born on January 2nd, or 3rd, 2012 and that hes a male ambilobe panther chameleon. I have been feeding him superworms because he doesnt seem to want crickets. hes shy towards me, but i have only handled him about twice, and thats because i let him wander out of his cage and onto my hand. He is very shy though, he hissed once.

But I dont look at him much or mess with him much. I go to school so i am not always in my room and i work and sometimes i stay out late and have my brother mist his cage and feed him. Here are some pics of him. What do you guys think?????? Do you think hes healthy? sorry for the huge post but i want to make sure i am doing everything right and if he looks healthy.

by the way, the temperature in the basking spot is around 90 degrees while its on. I measure it with two digital timers under it, one directly under about 5 inches. everywhere else its 75 degrees, and about 60 at night. depends if we get a cold front. As it starts getting warmer though, we will turn our A/c on and we will be able to maintain the temp much better. Hes fine in this temp though, just another detail to add.. what do you guys think of him? do u rele think hes 13 months or older??? i herd they get more colorful around 20 months..! and that they can live for 10 years. he climbs strong and runs sometimes too along the branches.... i hold the super worm with my fingers and its front lets grab a branch, and he gobbles em up. how many should i feed at a time and what not? thanks everyone im a newbie to chams

there are two of those. its just a dish that collects all the water from the dripper and plants. i throw the water in them away almost every day. it just helps with maintenance.

Lol they are down there. its hard to see in the pics. im suprised someone noticed them before i did though lol.

He looks great besides the last pic where it looks like his tail is missing:eek::D. Not over or under weight. Id keep him looking like that.

thanks everyone:) and yes, i know he looks kinda funny in the pic where it doesnt show his tail!!!! lol. and dang, i didnt even know he was a red bar. willl he get more color as he ages? im glad to know he looks healthy, i was just nervous because hes my first panther

thanks everyone:) glad to know he looks healthy. I checked out the chameleon care resources and that helped out too. Thanks so much ! ill post more pics of him when hes done shedding, i think it will be soon!!

thanks... i think somethings wrong witth his poop though!!! I attached a pic. I see him drinking sometimes and he eats good. only superworms though, doesnt seem to want crickets, but i leave some in his cage and they eventually disapear.. I cant find anyone that ships silkworms or hornworms in florida. His poop has this orange bump on the end of it, with a little bit of white urates. Can someone help me? besides the poop, he seems fine though?

These guys are in Jacksonville. I also found a place in Georgia, but my order never got to me. Try these guys for your hornworms :)

ive looked at their site but their always out of stock lol.

but what do you think about my chameleons poop?? i herd the urates are supposed to be bone white. theres one part thats white, one orange part, and the brown turds. i dont have the money to spend on a pointless vet visit because he is eating fine and has been doing fine overall and looks great. but is he dehydrated or something??? why is part of his poop orange? thanks for all your help everyone!

seems to be going on a bit today with the orange poop part https://www.chameleonforums.com/orange-poo-83185/

I'm still not convinced it's dehydration but may be worth looking into

possibly. i might get a fecal on his next turd but honestly, i am starting to think that its from the superworm diet.
