New and excited!!!!

There's a thread this morning about someone who got a Jackson at a show a couple of weeks ago-they guy they got it from put it in a paper bag and gave them a suppliment that used every day would kill him- luckily they ended up here where they could get the proper information - hopefully in time-
There are a couple of threads about ways to transport a chameleon to the vet- I'm adding that to my must read list so that you'll have a good idea of what you might want to bring to bring your guy home if you do get one. - At the show I went to I saw veild in a way to small deli cup - there are members who sell at shows - but I would bet my panther that guy wasn't one of them.
I can't stress how much getting the right chameleon to start out with makes a difference - but the right one for you might be different than the right one for someone else -and on how much having a good set up ready to go increases your odds on success. Test your set up before so you don't have to mess with it when he first gets home. The less you have to adjust the better he will adjust.

Great info thank you

I dint read through the whole thread but you said you were going to repticon. I may again again too but I'll warn you, don't buy from the people with Veileds that are like 2 weeks old and have them on bark. Sadly many people were selling them like that last time and had horrible lighting. Hope find a good little guy. (Also I recommend getting a male, mostly have more colors and you don't have to deal with infertile eggs)

What do u mean by they had them on bark? And I was thinking of getting a male also because of the colors. Thanks for ur input :)

They put bark down as a substrate which shouldn't been done, only paper towels or something similar should really be used.

Very wise to reach out to the fine folks of the Chameleon Forums. You are getting some great advice! We have helped many people begin with their very first chameleon. Please come by the Kammerflage Kreations booth, I would love to meet you in person at the Repticon Show! We will have a nice selection of healthy captive bred panther chameleons that I promise will be well hydrated and not kept on bark! ;-) Look forward to seeing you!! Ed Kammer

So I have a newbie question for you guys hopefully someone can help me out...

I need a basking and a UV light for my future chameleon correct? And at night they both go off? Thanks in advance guys

Yes you need both and yes they both need to go off at night.

I am way up in Montana now, so I don't make shows like when I lived in CA, but do go meet Ed. That is one super nice man, as is his wife. They have the prettiest, and the healthiest panthers you will ever see.

And obviously both on during the day right? Thanks a lot!! Who's ED?

No need to be sorry. Just trying to help. If Ed has some offspring from Sinatra at that show I wouldn't be able to resist. No way I could walk away from his booth empty handed. You should definitely go by and say hello. I would if I could. FL to CA is a long drive.

So this is what I have so far for my future baby Cham I still need to obviously add both my lights my dripper system lots of foliage and branches.. What else do u guys think I need? Any input is appreciated

some sort of drainage to deal w/ water collection from the dripper and mister. maybe some sort of internal pan that is right below where the dripper is that will flow thru the bottom to a bucket underneath. Seal the raw wood also so it won't rot out over time. Nice work so far. Looks pretty darn tootin good for a Do It Your Selfer enclosure.
