Hi,
Im new on here and need some advice. I bought my new 6 month old male chameleon one week ago. He has barely eating anything. He hides in his tree and has no interest in his food. How long does it take for him to settle in? what else could be wrong? im really worried about the wee man.
Thanks for any help

what does barely eating mean...3 or 4 large crickets, or 1 or 2 every other day? Is your Cham drinking?

You can help us to help you more by checking out this link and answering the questions here. https://www.chameleonforums.com/how-ask-help-66/

It may take a few weeks for your cham to get settled into some kind of normal cycle. Till then you probably want to provide him with food and water and just give him some space.

Hope that helps
and welcome

Shy wee thing.

He is in a glass front tank,4 foot tall 3 foot wide with wood sides. He has exo terrat uvb uva bulb along the back and a basking site which is at 95 degrees. The rest of the tank is at 75 degrees. He has wood bark on the bottom, a real plant and loads of branches. I spray him twice a day which he has been drinking. I put 5 small locusts in today. He done a poo today which was soft and healthy looking with appropriate white bit. He is a vieled chameleon 6 months old his name is Woody.

Im new but from what ive seen everyone says go screened tank all around,

Like I just said im a new owner and my cham also didnt eat the first day untill like the middle of the second day and now he is still hiding but eating the crickets that go near him... im pretty sure my guy is just settling in.. yours might be doing the same?

Some of the forum has actually asked questions about this, because there has been a few people who have been successfully raising their chams in non-screened enclosures. However that being said, you may run into a few of the keepers here who will freak out that you have your cham in a non-screened enclosure.:p

But I do find that many of the keepers across the pond have their chams in the non-screened enclosures too. The main thing is that you can set up the environment up to specs and maintain it that way.:D:p

Personally I think that if you have an environment that changes frequently, (temp, humidity, circadian) then you should set up accordingly. If you are in a very arid area you may not need quite the same amount of air flow as say Me where it is humid despite our trade winds. Bottom line is stay with the forum not matter what and look for more keepers who are on the "island" or the UK as we say.

OK whew long winded..

back to your Cham...more questions I have yes yes.

does your cham poop every day?

also can you take a pic of your set up...I am wondering if you have one of those dual lamp set ups with the coiled type of UVB bulb?

hope that helps...
