New Cham

Hi all,

some of you may have read a threat that i posted last week about my sick veiled - Rocky.

Sadly he died, after much hard work trying to nurse him back to health.

i bit the bullet yesterday & drove 3 hours to meet a veiled breeder, he gave me great advice & told me that Rocky was proberly ill when i bought him & that it wasnt my fault in why he died (it didnt really make me feel much better though) & after looking at his babies i could tell the difference, rocky was thinner when i bought him & didnt really move too much.

His baby veiled's were fatter, liverlier & they all seemed very keen to meet me.

I couldnt leave with out one, so i brought home a little fat chunky male, he has settled in very well, eating & drinking, walking every where in his viv, basking well - we have yet to name him, so at the moment we just call him little mate!

i would just like to stress to anyone that wants to buy a cham - please go to a breeder & not a PET SHOP, if they are good, you will be able to tell this as soon as you meet them & they will be happy to give you advice on any concerns you may have.

i wish i had meet this breder 6 weeks ago, i wouldnt have had all the heart ache i did over the past 2 weeks & a poor little veiled life would have been saved.

hope to be on the boards alot more now, with my new health cham.

i knw what u mean i wish i had gone to a breeder for my chameleon as the pet shop gave me all the wrong advice but my cham seems ok but i wil not buy from that pet shop again.

i hope you cleaned the enclosure well before placing him into it, as the other baby could have had something that could transfer the new baby.

Hey Danni,

Do not feel bad. You probably gave Rocky a better chance than the pet store did. If he was ill when you bought him then he would have died even faster in their care than yours. At least you tried and cared enough to.

Great, this time i think you will have alot easier time of it. healthy chams are alot less of a problem. i too got a sick cham from crappy pet store. he was borderline from get go. he did make it (barely) and now still makes me worry. i will never buy from anyone but reputable breeder. It sounds like you care, but unfortunatly if the person before you didnt, even the best stand a lesser chance. kudo's for not getting discouraged.

Sorry about Rocky :(

Just out of curiosity where was the breeder that you got your new baby from? I don't know of many in the UK and if I ever get another cham (which won't happen for a while - Cassius is taking up all my time at the minute!) I'd like to get one from a breeder.
