new chameleon owner wondering about food

so ive been feeding mostly crickets that have been gutloaded on a high calcium diet, but my petstore i grab them from hadent had any for 3 days and goonie was getting a lil skinny, and since he lives outside i didnt want him straying too far to try and find food, so i went to the toronto center island and captured a buncha huge spiders on the ferry and around the washrooms on the island using a broom that was leaning against the wall... i was just wondering if its ok for him to be eating these big juicy spiders? and if any of you have ever done this
im gunna buy some silkworms and crickets tomorow but in the meantime hes munching down on some spiders.

he is a veiled, and by he lives outside i mean for the two months i have had him he has climbed around plants in my back yard, free to run away if he chooses, but he has decided not to thus far.

Are you planning to bring him inside for the colder months? You do realize that veiled chameleons are not native to Toronto, and therefore are not equipped to survive in those conditions?

oh he loves the snow! ahahaha omfg hell no!!!!! im setting up his inside settup now, so it will be ready for him , hes coming inside on the 20th of September, because the weather is still nice then, im bringin him in before it even gets the slightest bit chilly
and he is verry happy and runs to me to climb on my hand, and has tripled in size since i got him has a voracious appetite and his pee part of his poo is always PURE white....

its rained every other day for about a week, and the thermometer i have outside has not read a nighttime low temp under 17 degrees.... as soon as it hits 15 or below once im bringing him inside till next summer, and in the next 10 day forecast 6 of those days its raining, and not all in a row, so sry but your average's there are a lil off.

I agree. But even besides weather, hello they can run away. Or get picked off by a cat or bird. Any thing can happen when they arent in a enclosed area. I would be terrified to do that. I understand exercies and exploring, but they need bounderies for saftey reasons.

I just can't even imagine leaving my chameleon outside...I'm sure a hawk would come pick him up within a day. I'm not sure what kind of predator animals you have out there, but I bet that even a squirrel could be a problem.

On the other hand, I may have to put my foot in my mouth when it comes to the temperature, I just read that in the United Arab Emirates the mountain average minimum temp is 52-57F, so maybe you won't freeze your chameleon. I doubt the temperatures are ideal though, he probably should be warmer.

lol you must think canada is cold during the summer too!?! haha its 24(75.2) degrees right now and its been raining and cloudy all day, most days are more like 27(80) degrees.... reaching highs in the low to mid 30's(90) and i check my outdoor thermometer every morning for its nightime low temp and havent recorded any temps under 17(62.6) degrees yet. so too cold it is anything but. and as for birds... i live in canada they have never seen a lizzard and ive seen a bluejay sitting two inches from him and he walked right past it and it flew away, and the squirls are too buisy eating all the peanuts i leave for them to bother with him, again ive seen them in close proximity to him before but neither payed any attention

Goonie....Please.....Listen to what these people are saying. Get your cham inside asap. I live in Toronto and it has been an amazing summer. It seems like every day has been 90+ BUT it's going to start cooling off soon, in fact night temps will dip into the 50's this week! Veileds dont like those cool temps! You are so lucky that he hasn't wondered away ( being free-ranged ouside)- If he happens to 'escape', he will most likely not survive another month.

you are probably confusing people with 17 degrees which is really 62 degrees like you said. Then you are not talking farenheit obviously. You are lucky he has not been eaten by something by now. I wont even leave my cham outside for one second without me sitting on a chair next to him.
