I didnt notice what you did for the bottoms of the cages, did u drill a hole in the corner to allow it to go into the trough, or just slant the bottoms?

I love it. The pvc shroud makes your whole operation look industrial. It would be neat if you could route your misting lines and nozzles through it for an even cleaner look. You v'd bottom drain pain reminds me of a auto paint shop sealed booth with the water pan floor to catch airborne particulates. Top notch job.

You know what- I thought about running the tubing through the PVC. I agree it would look cool. I was on the verge of doing it, but I shyed away from it because I got to thinking it would be harder to clean the water system that way. Once a week I try to take the whole pump/tubing/buckets etc. and run a cleaning solution through it, and the way it's set up now is still a mini-project in itself. Thanks to all you guys for the positive reveiws!! Anyone else should throw some pics or video up of any of their watering/caging/insect rearing methods. I can't learn enough about this endeavour and I love to see other people's methods and constantly try to incorporate new ideas into my set-up. Thanks again- I love this forum.

Wow, this is really neat. You're inspiring me to get creative with my setup. you really have it set up to put a lot of water through the cages! I wish I could just drip away without worrying where the water goes. What's your humidity level like with this setup?

I have it set on a timer to run 5 cycles per day at about 5 minutes per cycle. My humidity level fluctuates between about 45% at it's lowest and right after a cycle finishes it will stay at about 75-80% for about 2 hours. The air conditioner in my house stays at about 75-77F and it really dries the air out.

what kind of pump is that? can you explain the pump system a bit? looks great btw. i have a single cage, linoleum flooring at the bottom that bevels downwards from the plant's weight, and i cut an X shape in the bottom to drain into a pan, but i manually mist. I'd like to get an auto mister like that for my setup.

The last cage has a female Jackson's- The others are Veileds. I use the ultrasonic humidifier and a low wattage (34 watt) bulb for Jackson's.
Actually, I've only ever used fake plants, but I'm going to switch over to live plants over the course of the next couple of weeks. Those plants you see are actually clippings off of a Camellia japonica. They last up to 2 weeks clipped before they start to wither. Camellias are on FLChams list of safe plants, so I clip, scrub and throw 'em in.
The pump is a 300 gph Smartpond pump from Lowes garden center, $45. I just keep it in a CLEAN 5-gallon bucket on a timer cycle. The closer to the top of the cage it sits, the better it works.
Yep-DIY. The fog is a Walgreens ultrasonic cool mist humidifier, $40. It does the trick. Those Jackson's love it.
