Hello every one. I am new here to Chameleon Forums and I hope to be a new chameleon keeper soon. I have several other reptiles but i have stayed away from chameleons for quite some time due to the horror stories Ive heard about keeping them and how tough it is. Recently I decided im going to go ahead and get one. I have the cage already i bought the reptiarum screen enclosure and a big dripper, along with a 5.0 uvb bulb, I need to get a heat lamp... What should i use for that. I have a synthetic vine in the cage and I am going to buy a ficus (if thats a good plant for a hatchling) As far as food goes i have roaches and mealworms i raise my self for feeding. I am looking at where to buy my little guy from i want an animal that is going to be healthy any suggestions on that would be great.

Check out the site sponsors and the clasiffied tab above, can't go wrong. They are all great, just see which one has what you want? You will love your new addition, they are amazing animals.:)

You know, I would suggest a Male Panther Cham (As long as you have room for a large enclosure in time) for your first as they are usually more friendly even as adults, Very Pretty to look at, big enough at full size to locate easily. and so much more. BUT, I would not suggest a Ficus If you decide on a Panther, the tree's mess with their eyes. But on the other hand my other Chams do just fine in Ficus trees.

I was looking at the panthers they are amazing and beautiful, but i heard that the veiled where easier to care for...

I have had both and I don't think there is a lot of difference in level of ease caring for them. jmo I would get what you want.:)

Its really coming down to price for me right now... I have a leopard gecko colony i am trying to beef up too. I just spent a good chunk on some new females. But like I said i always loved the way chameleons look. I might hold out on ordering and see if i cant get a panther for a decent price at a show (no shipping)

Well, I have seen some good priced Panther mixes if your looking for a great pet. Multi local crosses are cheaper but will still provide you with a beautiful colorful usually good natured Cham.

Welcome to the forums. Chameleons are a high maintenance pet so if you are low on cash I would recommend waiting until you get a nice little saving account built up for one. It's not just the purchase being expensive it's everything......vet visits, feeders, supplements, lighthing and much more.

Thank you. Its not that I don't have the money to care for the animal, and i grow my own feeders. I have a good sized collection of lizards. I have all the lighting except the heat lamp, as i am unsure of what i need to get. A basking lamp or just a light bulb. (Ive read different things) I have all the calcium, i need to get the vitamins every one is talking about but i haven't seen them here at my local pet shops. (any one know where i can order them) As far as the vet goes I have a good relationship with my vet, since i have 4 dogs that go to her and my reptiles when they need it. But like I said I am new to chameleons and will take any advice on caring for my new addition when i get him. I have been keeping reptiles (specifically tortoises) since i was around eight years old. I started with a California desert tortoise (CB and legally obtained) She is still doing great to this day at over 15 years old, and Im sure my children (when i have them) will take great care of her when im gone. Back to the subject... I posted a video of my Cage i got on youtube same name primestick. If you would like to see what i have so far look and tell me what else i need.
