New Home

This is our Chameleon is 4 years old and have just got him, named 'T'-Rex after our son pictured named him
He has a new home coming a Vivarium 4 foot tall 3 foot wide and 2 foot deep.
It should be here by the weekend.
At the moment he is in a mesh type.
We feed him large crickets, Locus and meal worms.
We also spray him and the vivarium 3 times a day.
We have got a water feeder coming, crickets feeder like a termite mound coming.
There is a few small logs and plenty of hiding places for his food.
he has vines at the top where he spends all his time.
our question is, is everything were doing ok?
We done count the crickets we put in but there is always a lot in there.?
What would happen to the temperature when we go from a mesh type to a wooden with glass front vivarium?
We have left him alone to settle in and were all desperate to hold him even Jacob our 3 year old pictured, how long should we leave him?

Chams should not be handled often

Espcially when they have to adjust to a new home. Wow 4 years old that is an old cham I hope you got a good deal on him as he will only live a few years longer. What is your setup right now? and what is his temp? and what kind of lights? are you using. There no need for a termite mound you can let the crickets roam around the cage and he will eat them or you could place them in a deli cup if you wish. Also veiled chameleons eat veggies somtimes and they do like variety in their diet as well as crickets like superworms, silkworms, roaches, and wax worms as treats.

Do you have a UVB light? What kind of supplements are you dusting his feeders with?

Thanx for the reply

We dont dust the food as we are doing what the last owner has done, it was free as they are moving and needed a good home, we hope we are the good home.
Whats a UVB light ?

The set up right now is a 2x2x3 foot mesh cage and he has always been happy with that, the previous owner was a veterinary nurse so guess she was happy with the set up.
We are new to this although Pete use to have a forrest Cham 15 years ago so things have changed since then
Any help is of course welcomed but we are pretty poor now having brought a new vivarium for him.
We are a bit concerend about him drinking having not seen him, we did hear a crunch last night and rushed over only to see half a locus hanging out his mouth so eating is good.

Its the drinking at the moment we are concerned with ?
Whats the mistking like?
We do this by hand 3 times a day he seems to tolerate this

This is a link to a UVB tube http://www.livefoods.co.uk/product_info.php?cPath=50&products_id=157 if you don't have one you MUST buy one or your cham will get MBD which stands for Metabolic Bone Disease. metabolic bone disease - its when the reptile has a lack of calcium and the circumstances thats stops the rep from metabolising the calcium in the diet properly, lack of UVB and results in rubbery bones and can result in deformities - can be stopped and improved but not entirely reversed. I am also in the U.k and i buy most of my things from http://www.livefoods.co.uk/ good prices.

I would not worry about not seeing your cham drink, most people don't. As long as his urate's (wee) are white then he is fine. Just in case you don't know, when he goes to the toilet there will be two bits a long brown bit thats his poop and a white bit thats his wee.
