New hood mod.....

Im building a new cage..... I am going to use a Zoo Med 36" slider hood on it. It has a removable screen to keep critters out......... I know perfectly well that the small mesh on it will block probably 50% of the UVB:mad: SO.... I got out the trusty Dremel tool and ground away the spot welds on the crap mesh... This took some time. I then siliconed in some nice galvinized hardware cloth:cool: I am very happy with he results

Nice & clean! Good work. I like my setups to be clean and uncluttered yet functional and good for the animals.

yea im much more of a person who learns by seeing it down, but i'll do me best to one day make something similar to this.

now heres a question for you?
what is your opinion on haveing a two bulb set up where one being your daytime lamp and the other the blue night lamp?

You shouldnt have any light at nite;) they dont like it..... If your home gets below 65 degrees you can use a ceramic- non light heat emitter;) You should be useing 2 bulbs now for the day. A UVB flouresent & a basking heat type

i do but i ment as for a whole day night thing.

But yes it gets below 65 where i live. i'm living in the middle of an iowa winter. last night the low was 7 degrees. so yea i keep a light on in my cham's terra. during the summer i wont be rocking any lights at night for my lil loki.

Yeah.... I live in Wisconsin. I keep my thermostat at 72 in my apartment. When my timer shuts everything off... everything is off.. No heat no lights no mist,, nuthin. just dark and quiet.;)

get the cermaic heat emitter at night. the blue light will annoy them and make them sleepy during the day. Also the extra stress will lessen the life span....

any particular wattage?

Im not sure... Figure alot of heat will just exit the cage thru the screen. I have 2 sockets left to fill in my hood.... Im thinking 2 plant compact flouresent's or 1 plant and maybe 1 ceramic emitter. Have to check temps when its ready to house Ernie.
