Greetings All,

I just wanted to pop in and introduce myself and my first 'child' Nirodha. Niro is a just over 4 month old Sambava male from KK's Montezuma.

I also want to just put a general thank you out there to all of the regular posters here that have greatly facilitated my research and preparation over the past months before I took the leap!

So far everything is going pretty well (I've had Niro for about a month now). He is eating well, drinking well, pooping well, and seems generally pretty active. I'm pretty confident that we have the essentials down with respect to lighting, misting, cage, food, supplements, etc. We've even got his "big boy" (2 x 2 x 4) setup pretty much complete and hope to move him in soon.

My biggest concern so far is primarily with handling, which I know is a common topic with differing opinions within the community. We are being very patient so far (and of course will continue to be indefinitely if necessary), but the N-man definitely doesn't want to be handled, he still won't even pluck any yummies out my hand (even a hornworm, which he loves). I've taken him out 3 times so far in the past month (twice for cleaning, and once most recently for some outdoor basking), and he still hisses, and bites (more comical than menacing, but still....)... It'll be interesting to see how he matures, but regardless of how "handle-able" he becomes, we love our new baby!

Peace & Love to the Chameleon World!

Hi, Welcome to the forums. You have already abused a forum rule not even in existence but im going to say it is there. You cant post that you have a sambava without posting PICS!!

Welcome to the Forum :D I am glad that you have found the best place for advice on your chameleon! There are lots of great people on this site who really know their stuff. Its a great place to meet people who share the same passion for chameleons that you do! Feel free to ask questions and most importantly... Post lots of pictures :p All kidding aside we all love photos! Can't wait to see one of your new guy. :D:D:D
p.s Don't worry he will warm up to you! just be patient and don't force him. you have to give him A LOT reasons to trust and NO reason not to trust you.
Try getting him use to your hand with feeders first then he will know your hand is a good thing.

Hello Chris, welcome to the forum. Glad you joined us instead of just lurking. We really aren't that bad. However I would like to say I saw husker and flashed back to college rivals. i went to Iowa State in Ames. The choice between a husker and a cyclone, well of course cyclone.:):)

But I promise to be here to offer any help I can, and to say nice things about your little guy ---- IF YOU EVER POST HIS PICTURE:D:D:D:D:D

Don't worry Chris, I really am a moderator and I will protect you from Stan - he is a sweetheart, just likes to seem tough:D.
We call this forum banter, you will see lots of it.

So I said you are a sweetheart - get over it!

Welcome to the family - of somewhat crazy though highly educated and dedicated cham keepers !! Give your little guy some time & be patient with the handling, when he is ready he will be ready, until then just keep trying to hand feed with patience and very slow movements.

lol very true welcome your cham just needs a few days to settle in still im sure!!!!!

ps. pics are a must for new chams on here lol!

Wow! Thanks everyone for the generous chorus of welcomes! You all sound like just the kind of nuts that I'll fit in well with... And okay, okay, I'll get on the pictures. So far my avatar pic is actually the most recent from a few days ago. For some reason he looks skinny in the pic, but I swear he eats like champ and usually sports a little more belly in person! His colors have been pretty bland (2 full body sheds in the month I've had him), just in the past week or so the greens are really starting to come in with great reds on his chin and eyes when he's telling me not to even dare pick him up yet! He's definitely got a cute and curious personality though, so I think he'll be fine!

Sounds like a healthy normal chameleon attitude :p lol

My favorite part is watching them color up!

In a month or two you wont recognize him!

lol... I've had many good times in Ames! Now that we're no longer in the Big 12, I'll miss the Cyclones (much cooler bunch imo than our new Iowa "rival" the little hawkeyes :)!

Thanks for the welcome Laurie!
