Chameleon Info:
Your Chameleon - Panther, Male, Hatched Dec. Had him for 2 weeks today.
Handling - First week, once to allow adjustment. This week, often to assist in problems.
Feeding - Pin-heads, about 12 a day, gut load w/Fulkers
Supplements - Reptical w/o D3 each day, and first day used with D3
Watering - I mist 4 times a day for about 2-3 minutes. I've never seen him drink until last few days.
Fecal Description - Dark droppings with white, picture available upon request. Not tested.
History - Any previous information about your cham that might be useful to others when trying to help you.

Cage Info:
Cage Type - Screen, 12" high
Lighting - Low watt heat lamp and 5.0repti
Temperature - 80-65
Plants - Pothos and fake vines
Placement - Sits on a tall dresser in a less populated/traffic area
Location - Northern Indiana

Current Problem - Seemed fine when he arrived, if a bit skinny. Active, aggressive, bright colorings as well as dark. Ate well, moved well though somewhat shaky which I assumed was due to size. About 4 days ago, he went into shed. He didn't attempt to remove it, but sat there miserable looking. I increased misting to help but after a day it was all still there. At that point, I took him out and helped him carefully and got most of it off, left what I couldn't for him to finish. Since then however, he is pale, doesn't move unless I handle him, falls in his enclosure flailing about as if he can't find the next step in front of him. He keeps his eyes closed most of the time, sits and appears to sleep all day and night and last night after him nearly falling several times, I removed him to a deli cup with paper towel bunched in it, and slightly damp for humidity so he wouldn't harm himself. I have gotten him to drink twice in these 4 days and attempted some reptaboost without much success. He pooed today and I didn't see any yellow or orange but have a picture if helpful. His eyes seem somewhat sunk in, though they did a bit when he first arrived so not sure about that. Any advice would be helpful and I'd be grateful.

Wow, scary, Drakonia13--I know you're hoping somebody with some good experience and information will jump on this quickly!

I'm not the one, but I just wanted to tell you good luck--I hope you're able to resolve your new baby's issues and get him on the road to recovery very quickly!

Sandy

From the symptoms and the look of him I would get him to a vet asap.
I don't know what is wrong with him but I am pretty sure it is serious. That means it could be very near the end for him......
I hope he's ok :)

12 pinheads a day is not enough food for a 3-4 month old chameleon. He should be eating much larger crickets (1/4 inch at least) and about 15-20 daily. That is why he is skinny and weak and has gone downhill.

The first picture is today's picture. I have sent a message to the breeder and am still awaiting a response. I've attached to this reply a picture of him on the day he arrived.

Can you keep him hydrated and offer him some food? Do you have access to small crickets? Yah, sorry to say I cannot offer any great advice. It doesn't look good. :(

Sorry, I thought that was the deli cup he was shipped in. He looks very dehydrated and unwell. I hope you are able to get him to a vet.

I must apologize to all. My local store carries what they call Pinheads and Larges in crickets. They are in fact smalls, I'm just used to asking for Pinheads and thus wrote it down that way. I know they can eat more than what I posted, but the breeder told me they offered 8-12 a day to his size so I thought 15 was good since he looked kind of thin. Again I'm sorry for the confusion. As to feeding him right now, he really won't even open his eyes unless I move him so I'm not sure if I should try. I'm hoping to get him to the vet tomorrow assuming he makes it through the night.

No, don't move him, don't try to feed him. Do you have a syringe that you could gently drip water over his nose so he can get a drink? He desperately needs one. I think that is all you can do right now and then get him to the vet in the morning. Good luck.

i hope your breeder offered a health guarantee. hopefully it may be something as simple as parasites (bring a fecal with you to the vet if you have one), but whatever it is it’s causing him to go downhill rather quickly. fluids are critical right now, and he does need to have a vet take a look. i’m so sorry that you had to start this way with a new pet, not fun. :(

Health guarantee was 7 days unless you bought their setup in which case it went to 30 days.

He has made it through the night, doesn't seem any worse, but also not better. It seems I can't get in to the vet until this afternoon but at least I can get him in.

After you take him to the vet you will know what is going on. It may be related to the breeder you got him from, but it may not. If the vet feels this is a long standing problem I would inform the breeder and ask that he stand by the health guarantee, at the issue was there when you got him. If not then you will just need to address it with your vet and hope he gets better.

Let us know what the vet tells you.

UPDATE:
The vet says he is too small to really be sure what is going on at this point. She speculates that between how thin he was, his shed and that stress, as well as the stress of a new environment and shipping are the most likely culprits here. First she wants to see if we can get him eating on his own as well as drinking. If he makes it that far, then we will test to rule out parasites which she feels is unlikely at this point.

TREATMENT:
She administered a shot with fluids and force fed "Oxbow Carnivore Care". I am to feed half dose in the morning and the other half in the evening until he opens his eyes and will eat crickets on his own.

PROGNOSIS: Slim She gave him a 10%-20% of pulling through.

I'm not going to give up on him. If he survives to morning, I'm taking that as a good sign he's a fighter after all she put him through. Then one day at a time.

oh man, this is heartbreaking. I hope he pulls through! Sending good thoughts to the both of you.

I'm very glad that you are not giving up. That means you really care and that is wonderful. I wish there were more people out there like that.

Please keep us posted.

UPDATE: He survived the night! One hurdle down. Now trying to get some of this food down him and see how he handles that. I should mention he's 2grams. I will also note, he's not quite as pale as yesterday.
