Today I picked up a blue bar ambilobe. The previous owner didnt seem to have a clue what he was doing. He had substrate at the bottom, wrong vitamins ,and wrong lighting. He was only dusting with calcium with D3, no plain calcium, or multi vitamins, so my question is this. If im not sure how much he was using the D3, should i lay off it for a while ( about a month or more?) before giving him more d3? I will try to get back in contact with him tomorrow to ask but just wanted to ask in case he didnt respond back.

Too much d3 will hurt him. It's not healthy to overdose on d3.... Lay off for a little. Your correct. Just stick to the multivitamins 2-4 times a months and regular calcium every other feeding. Also make sure to get UVB bulb.

Ok cool, thank you. Yes i had his enclosure set up with all correct lighting. Also have both calciums, and multivitamins. Just didnt know what to do. How long do you think I should wait until i give him more D3? are there any warning signs of to much d3? im thinking of waiting about 2 months just to be safe.

2 months should be good. Just et in contact with the previous owner to see how much he really used over the time to get a better understanding.

Side effects are:
1) open mouth
2) loose tongue
3) tongue sticking out of mouth
4) unable to shoot tongue towards food properly.

Btw awesome job on getting everything done properly and getting he needs! That's a real pet owner right there :D

I'd shoot an email to Ferretinmyshoes or Dr. O on here, they are both vets and would tell you much more accurately what to do than most of us. I think not using it for a while would be best, but only a vet (and perhaps Kinyongia) would be able to tell you how long it will take to flush out all the excess and how to get him on a normal schedule again.
