Chameleon Info:
  • Your Chameleon - male ambanja panther chameleon. 5 months old. Had him for 3 days
  • Handling - handled him once when he climbed onto my arm while i was adjusting something inside the cage.
  • Feeding - I have been feeding him crickets a couple times a day, and at these feedings i give him as many as he will eat. I dust with calcium powder with no phosphorus or D3
  • Supplements - Zoo med repti calcium without D3 or phosphorus
  • Watering - I mist with a spray bottle every couple of hours. I have seen him drink quite a bit.
  • Fecal Description - Not tested for parasites. Poop is completely normal.
  • History - Came from West Coast chameleon Brothers. Blue ambanja son of bonsai the great.

Cage Info:
  • Cage Type - XL reptibreeze
  • Lighting - 26 watt uvb. 75 watt basking bulb. Both by zoo med. Lights are on 12 hours a day
  • Temperature - Basking spot is around 83 and ambient temp is about 75. Temp goes to 70 ish at night
  • Humidity - 65%. Maintained by misting and live plants
  • Plants - One umbrella plant
  • Placement - He is in my bedroom, not near any vents. Window is on the other side of the room.
  • Location - Rochester, Michigan

Current Problem - He is not eating what he should be and sleeping. He eats 4-6 crickets and I know it should be more like 10. He also seems to be sleeping during the day. He is on his basking branch with his eyes closed. The only crickets he has eaten have been hand fed. He doesnt eat them out of his cup. Maybe he just is sleeping because he is still adjusting and it is exhausting. He is still active 60 percent of the day, but other that he stays in one place. Please help because I know he shouldn't be sleeping.

I believe that the issue here can be stress. I would leave him without handling for at least 2 weeks. He eats which is good.. I think that over time he will add more and more crickets. Regarding terrarium setup will advice others.

First try no handling. Make sure there's no lights higher above than his lights. Try to give him a few days without much interference. Seems like a stress thing if none of those work then I recommend you go to Yvette. You'll get a lot of information I'm sure people will help you with more information good luck

There is the light in my room on the ceiling but that should be fine?

Well they need to be regulated with time between 10 and 12 hours. I usually do by the solstices change the timer 15 minutes every month so I get to 12 . and then go down. They really don't like the light on if their lights off. so it would be fine to have one in your room as long as you have it off when their lights off.
