Hi everyone

I'd just like some advice really if thats OK we are new to chams and are becoming a little worried about our first.

he seems healthy with his eating but we are worried hes not getting enough water (we cant watch him 24/7) :)

Recently hes started to fall off things we noticed hes started to slip off the basking light cage which used to be one of his fave hiding spots, yesterday he wandered onto my arm and slipped off that to.?
Seeing your cham drop is a scary and worrying things I'm just worried we are doing something wrong with his diet maybe?

he has a
Zoo Med T5HO ReptiSun 5.0 86cm 39W
ProRep Basking Spot Bulb 100W
his habitat is 1150mmx610mmx915mm (w x d x h)

He has 2 water sources a leaf dripper and a tub dripper
We think he is about 10 to 11 months old

He looks healthy to me Ive included some pictures.

We try and keep his home around 24/25ºC directly under his basking spot gets to 30ºC and the other end for humidity is about 23ºC and 70% humidity, There are live plants in there which he seems to love.

So any advice on the falling thing would be awesome please, we are just worried i've even though about buying little nets to stop him falling :(

Chameleon Info:
  • Your Chameleon - Panther Cham, 9 to 10 months old and in our care for just under 3 months.
  • Handling - He will come out maybe twice a day not by force he seems to prefer being out
  • Feeding - Standard brown crickets 4 or 5 a day which have been gut loaded with fruit and veg and reptile jelly pots, we also let him have a couple of wax worms or locust as a treat a few times a week.
  • Supplements - Nutrobol calcium and multi vitimin balancer twice a week, Prorep calci dust twice a week and we give him 2 days off dusting his food.
  • Watering - He has an Exo Terra leaf dripper and a big dripper, We also mist him twice a day for a few minutes each time, he licks the vines even if they are not wet :(
  • Fecal Description - His poop is usally black / dark brown with a white end he's never been checked for parasites since we've had him in our home
  • History - Nothing I can think of hes very new to us

Cage Info:
  • Cage Type - Its a 3 sides wood habitat with sliding glass doors at the front (pictures below) dimensions 1150mmx610mmx915mm (W x D x H)
  • Lighting - Zoo Med T5HO ReptiSun 5.0 86cm 39W & ProRep Basking Spot Bulb 100W (UV light is on 12 hours a day, Basking light anything up to 11 hours from 9am till he goes to bed)
  • Temperature - We try and keep his home around 24/25ºC directly under his basking spot gets to 30ºC and the other end for humidity is about 23ºC and 70% humidity.
  • Humidity - We try and keep it around 60 / 70 % in the day with the lights on, we have an digital Temprature and Humidity display
  • Plants - We have to live plants in there, There is a dwarf palm and Devils ivy. (pictures below)
  • Placement - The habitat is in the master bedroom, Approx 60cm from the floor is the base.
  • Location - United Kingdom

Current Problem - We are worried he has started to slip off things that normally he would have been ok with.

He is a beauty! Love his habitat. Seems like your doing everything perfect. Have you checked his toe nails? If they aren't long enough they can lose there grip and slip. The natural fine is nice, I use them as well, but there is a black vine that can be found at the local pet stores that have a better grip and thinner. You could buy a couple and wrap around the natural vine I see. It would give him better stability. I also made homemade hammocks to prevent injuries . Hope this helps. Good luck!!

Hi thank you :) yeah hes toes still seem to be sharp he crawled on the wifes head yesterday and pinched her nose and it hurt which is a good sign ? :) I just hope its down to him becoming clumsy ..a hammocks sounds like a great idea I'm thinking like a tight rope walkers safety net style (y)

I can't see anything immediately wrong except you may want to adjust your supplement schedule. I'm not familiar with nutrobal but you should check the levels of vitamin A and d3 in it. Too much of either one can lead to health issues. Generally people on this forum follow the supplement schedule below.

Calcium WITHOUT d3 every feeding. (This balances the poor cal/phos ratio of our feeders)
Multivitamin every two weeks
Calcium WITH d3 every two weeks

So maybe the 2 day break we give him isnt helping and maybe hes getting to much D3?

Ive tried to see how much D3 it has but it just says "high"

Thats it above, ok so Ill give it a month on just Calci with a D3 suppliment to his food every 2 weeks and see how he gets on thanks for your advice
