New UVB

Perfect. Now remember you want 8-9 inches between where the new fixture will sit on the top of the enclosure and the branch below it. This will give approximately a 3 uvi level.
Okay, should I buy a stand then and have it a few inches from the top of the screen cage, instead of having it sit on top?

This is what I did it's about 3inch

So it depends on how you have the enclosure set up and if your chameleon is actively screen climbing the top panel....

If you need to lift it up off the cage it would be no more then 4 inches up and then the basking branch 5 inches below the top screen for a total of 9 inches. Keeping in mind if your branches are higher like that then basking has to be lifted higher to ensure thermal burns do not happen from the basking fixture.

She rarely screen climbs but the highest beach is about 2-3 inches from the top screen. So I will probably have to do that

UVB is one of those tricky topics to understand. But it is essential to the health of your chameleon it is done correctly. In the spirit of learning, here are some great UVB resources that will hopefully make a complicated topic easier to understand. And as always feel free to ask questions if something doesn't make sense or is still confusing.

I just watched like half of your videos for hours lol. Didn’t even realize it was you. I ordered the right lamps and they’re coming soon. Thank you(:)

So is that branch right below where the UVB will go? UVB has a pattern of flow I guess you could say. So really at the top you have the light at the front then the branch higher up at the back there will not be UVB there at the back. The highest concentration is right below the fixture and then it comes down like a cone shape extending at the bottom. Read through this link it will give you a better understanding of UVB https://chameleonacademy.com/chameleon-cage-set-up-replicating-the-sun/

Not to you, but maybe for the other person it was.
How would that comment be helpful at all to me lol? It was quite discouraging at first But reading back on these posts I do understand where he was coming from when you are so passionate about an animal and the specific care that they may not be reaching. But since I have joined the forums I have fixed every problem I had in my husbandry and am trying to find a local vet, I continue to research everyday and quite honestly it’s what I do with most of my time because I am so concerned on providing the best for my Cham. I know at first I did not know everything, I still do not, but like others say it’s a learning process and I am perfectly capable of fixing any problem that I run into and meeting all the requirements that she needs. It was a bit foolish to adopt her without doing extensive research, but I am doing the best I can now and I feel that’s what matters. But your comments were very discouraging to me at first and honestly I probably would’ve left the forum if it weren’t for Beman and a few others.

The one you got is called a compact bulb. These are the ones that are not adequate because the distance of safe UVB is very shallow.

So you want to buy a single bulb T5HO fixture and a 5.0 or 6% bulb. Then you would put the basking branch 9 inches below the new fixture.

I would get the 24 inch fixture if your enclosure is 24 inches wide or you will be upgrading to the 24 inch wide cage.

This fixture... https://www.pangeareptile.com/store/t5-uvb-light-fixture.html
But get this bulb in the 22 inch https://www.pangeareptile.com/store/arcadia-6-uvb-t5-reptile-bulb.html

The fixture comes with a daylight bulb which is good for plants ONLY. So you have to get the UVB bulb to replace it.

These fixtures can be daisy chained together as well. If you want to get 1 or 2 more so you have plant lighting. These additional fixtures you would leave the daylight bulbs in so there is nothing additional for those.
Would I be able to set this fixture right on top of the cage? Would it sit flat? I need one for my bearded dragon tank ?

Yes, it sits flat :) There is a thread going for Beardies.. I know nothing about them or their UVB requirements so I don't know what bulb you would need. But if it is a T5 then I don't see why this fixture would not work. Anyways go ask the nice folks in this thread. I would hate to steer you wrong. :)

I am sure it was helpful to someone.
This comment: "Please do your research before getting an animal, I know it's a little late but just keep that in mind if you plan to get another animal in the future please"
is probably one of the best advice we, and I would personally give to new keeper or new future keepers. Why? Cuz I got my first Chameleon drunk from petco without a single clue on what I was doing. Getting informed prior to owning anything will always be number 1 in my books. Some comments are really discouraging, and I'm sure we all been a victim of it, but like you said we all passionate bout our Chams one way or another. We can just keep moving forward, ignore bad advice or criticism, and remember at the end of the day it's what's worked for you.

I am a firm believer in a person doing their research PRIOR to getting an animal... However to post something like "Please do your research before getting an animal, I know it's a little late but just keep that in mind if you plan to get another animal in the future please" when someone has already gotten it does not help. We can say however "that is great, now here is a fantastic husbandry program you can read through to learn everything you need to know."

I hate the rudeness to new members. I think many of us started out doing either little to no research or all the wrong research. Saying to do it without giving people the correct resources to learn from just has them on google pulling all the wrong info. Which in turn has them back here with a dying chameleon.

The approach matters. Kindness matters. We all have our moments but keeping each other accountable for acting in a way that lifts up this community rather then tearing it down is important. Just my 2 cents on this.

I'll put in my 2 cents and that will make for more sense. (Oh, did I say that wrong?)
I know when I first started in this hobby I thought I pretty much knew what I was doing but soon found out just how much I didn't know. This was learned through the forum and advice given by different members. If I would have been given rude remarks or smart a-- comments, then I probably would have kissed the forum goodbye and continued on my own causing bad things to happen along the way. We do need to be patient with the new ones so they learn correct husbandry.?
