Hi guys I've been reading few of these forums and it seems as though I've been giving the wrong information on what to give my Veiled Chameleon. So I told told at the pet store that I gotta feed him crickets and mean worms and every second feeding to dust the crickets with calcium without D3. He only eats crickets no worms or fruit I've tried and tried. Lately he's gotten this huge white spot of his body with blue in it and only opens his eyes when he is hunting. I called the pet store and they say just make sure that the humidity is high which it's about 70% and temp is between 90-100. I wanna take him to a vet but have none close by that deal with reptiles. I really worried the little guys is gonna die. Can anyone please give any advice on how exactly I have to feed and what others stuff he needs to get better. Also he only drinks when I spray down the fake plants in his enclosure he has a dripping system also a water bowl that bubbles. I'll try to upload some pics. Thanks

first step is to get rid of the red light and get a basking bulb asap. also are you using a uvb bulb? if not that's a big part of the issue. also the bubble fountain is nothing more than a decoration, your cham is way more Ikely to drink from a dripper or off of your plants
 
live plants are another that will help. the supplementing I use calcium without d3 everyday and a vitamin with d3 once every two weeks. my guys eat pretty much everything but mainly crickets or dubia.
 
i had a basking bulb but the dude at the pet store said they a shit and to use the red ones I got the impression that he knew I had no idea what to do so he tried to sell me all this other crabs as well. Yeah I got a uvb pretty sure it's the 5.1. Thanks for the quick reply
 
yea it sounds as if he hasn't a clue what he's talking about. a 75 watt basking bulb should do the trick. their basking spot you don't want more than 95° and to make sure you give him places to hide to cool off if necessary
 
I also had live plants in there which the same guys said that a big no no cause of bacteria. What kind of plants do you recommend? I'll get the D3 asap too. Do u have any idea what the spot on him is and should I be worried?
 
there is a safe plant list that can be found on this site and by a Internet search for safe plants for chameleons. I have pothos, schleffera, and hibiscus plants. if the plants aren't aloud to dry they can grow mold in the roots. some plants themselves are toxic to chams not that they COULD grow bacteria
 
idk about the spot. to be honest it doesn't look good but It can't be seen very clearly in the pic. if it's as bad as it looks you may wanna consider getting him to a vet asap. their health is very touchy.
 
Your off to a great start by coming here! I would reccomend adding thinker branches near the top for basking but not too close to be burned. You will want the branch 7ish inches away for the uvb. For supplementing, its every feeding dust with calcium without d3, then 2 times a month use calcium with d3, and 2 times a month use a multivitamin. The only exception to this for veileds is if the multivitamin has d3, then you only use that 2 times a month and you do not use calcium with d3. Too much d3 can be bad for a cham. That spot looks like a burn to me, but I am not as experienced diagnosing things like that. @Andee or @jannb may be able to help better than I can

I actually do not go above 90 for my veiled. I think @jannb said that and I just followed what she said!
 
Thank you all for your advised I've already changed the red light to the basking bulb. I just don't know how he would of got burnt is there anything I can do to help him? Like I mentioned above I've been looking for a vet who deals with reptiles but I'm new to America and just learning the areas myself but the closest reptile vet I've found is about an hour away. I'll read the attached file now thanks again
 
I know there is a cream you can get but I dont remember exactly what its called. @jannb can you help with the name? Also are you able to fact check me on post #11?
 
So I was just reading the attached file and u say I should be using the 5.0 uvb tube. Is everything about the lighting I have set up wrong. Cause it was advertised as everything you need for a Chameleon. I knew they were bloody milking me for money! I'm so concerned that I'm gonna end up harming the little guy

The coil bulb will be ok until you upgrade his cage, I used it initially also. The linear tubes are better though because it spreads the uvb out the whole length of the cage
 
We also are a new baby veiled chameleon owner! Can someone please help me...

We purchased the zoo med started kit and added tons of extras inside with a drip system and all. Are the lights that come with this kit ok?

Yes I started out with the same kit and they are fine until you upgrade
 
Ok, thank you! We plan to build a larger cage when he needs it in a few months and upgrade the lights then. I was told the lights needed to be the specific one the person said asap, and made a priority over inside decorations or he will die soon. I freaked out
