New Veiled Chameleon Owner

Ok, thank you! We plan to build a larger cage when he needs it in a few months and upgrade the lights then. I was told the lights needed to be the specific one the person said asap, and made a priority over inside decorations or he will die soon. I freaked out
yes that was the uvb or in the case of the kit, the coiled bulb. without it your cham will develop metabolic bone syndrome and can die if it goes untreated. personally I think foliage and branches are just as necessary.

So I went out and got the basking bulb and calcium with d3 and the multivitamin too. Also removed all the fake plants and put in a pothos and hibiscus plants. I got some branches cut then to size washed them and barked them for over 2 hours. So after all the can anyone tell me why Hulk is climbing to the ceiling of the enclosure and hanging upside down. Is that a normal thing? I put his basking spot 6inch like I was told too. Still looking for a vet for him with no luck. Am I overreacting with this?

there are just new things in his environment. like moving his home this is new to him and takes adjusting. also you need the calcium without d3 which should be used everday

Yeah I have the calcium without D3 which I give him everyday the others twice a month. It looks as though he's getting use to it. Thanks for replying

I also had live plants in there which the same guys said that a big no no cause of bacteria. What kind of plants do you recommend? I'll get the D3 asap too. Do u have any idea what the spot on him is and should I be worried?
your also gonna want more things for your lil dude to hide in. i suggest a cage upgrade in the future. and also try and get rid of the repticarpet. DO NOT ADD SUBSTRATE. if you cant regularly mist your guy 2-4 times a day at least i suggest a mist king. has he shed yet? please fill this info out

I have a Veiled Chameleon, not saw of the sex (pet shop I got it from didn't even know all the new was how to sell me a heap of crap that was bad for my little guy) I think he's male thought I'll add pics. He's been in my care just under a month. I try not to handle him that much cause I had reptiles when I lived Australia and you gotta get them comfortable with the home first, the only time I take him out is when I'm cleaning the enclosure. He will only eat crickets. No worms or fruit what's so ever but I still put them in there for him. Well again I was told by the pet shop to only give him calcium every second feeding and nothing else but since I've become a member here I've learned better. Now I dust the crickets with calcium without D3 everyday and also gave him multivitamins and calcium with D3 (pics added). Hulk drinks when I most the plants. Though there is a dropper in there and also a bowl of water which bubbles. I mist it down 4-5 times a day for about 2 minutes. I've never actually seen him crapping but there's also a heap of it on leafs and the floor which is brown and white colour which I've read is good?

I have a screen enclosure which 2 foot wide 2 foot deep and 4 foot high. Basking spot is at 85-95 and the bottom is 65-75. I have 2 heat thermostat one near basking the other a foot from the bottom of the enclosure. Humidity is between 70%-90%. Again I just put in live plants as I was told they might kill him from the pet store. I've a Pothos in there and also a Dracaena which on both plants I've put big stones so he doesn't eat the soil. I've also cut a few branches to size which I washed thoroughly and baked for 2 hour on 200 degrees. Lightning is a 100watt black light and a 5.0uvb globe. Enclosure is located on the bottom floor of our townhouse in my man cave. There is hardly any human traffic. All the vents have been closed off and top of enclosure is about 5-6 foot from the ground. I live in Hackettstown, New Jersey USA.

The only problems I've got is the white spot on he's back which someone else told me it's a burn mark. He's eyes a closed most of the time but when hunting he is unstoppable And that he only eats crickets.

i suggest feeding small superworms instead of meal worms cause meal worms have low nutrition and unless you gutload are pretty much a shell. its good that hes eating though. what are you gutloading your crickets with. and what are his basking temps (low eighties to high eighties will suffice. seventy is too low and ninety is definitely to high for his age)

I've tried all types of worms but he won't have it at all. What do you mean by gutloading the crickets with? I go to another pet shop everyday after work and get him 12 and him them to him is there something else I should be doing?

i like the setup. but getting totally rid of fake plants is your opinion. i have only two pothos and my lil guy seems to love sleeping on them. also do you hand feed or let the crickets roam in the cage?

I have some fake vines in there but he never really like the fake plants and someone else said they weren't good so I got rid of them. I let the crickets roam freely cause he loves the hunt.

well. you dont really want to feed your crickets commercial feed (which is what pretty much all petstores use) and if your curious on what food the crickets from your petstore eat then take a peak into the thing they keep em in. im going to ask @kinyonga for what food your guys crickets should need. theres a wide variety you can feed them if you cant find what you want to feed them.

my guy loves hunting too but if you want to ensure the exact amount of food your guy gets i suggest hand feeding. and sometimes the crickets get fiesty and like to bite so thats another way to not let him get bitten.

also if your unsure about taking your guy outside you can either keep him in your hand. or find a little tree thats a little bit taller or shorter than you to put him in. im sure your cham will thank you. you just NEED TO WATCH OUT FOR HAWKS and other types of creatures that might be out for your cham. its a great way for him to get natural sunlight

So when I put in the crickets he pretty much hunts them all down straight away. I was worried that maybe he is eating to much but from what I've read it's not. So he'll eat 6-10 small crickets everyday the others I take out and replace them with new ones the next day

Really I can take him outside? That's awesome!

Can u tell me anything about the spot on him I uploaded the pic and also the sex?

Thats a lot of trips to the pet shop. Why not get a large plastic tub bin. drill some holes in it. Super glue mesh screen over it if you are that worried about escapees. Order 500 medium size banded crickets (better crickets less likely to die, dont stink) off Amazon from Josh's Frogs for $24. Gutload them with veggies, fruits, and water crystals. Save time and money.

Lol omg I've thought about it but I have a wife and she's not overly thrilled with the chameleon let alone 500 crickets.
