Hi

I bought my new male veiled chameleon a week ago and want to make sure everything i'm doing is correct.

Chameleon Info:
• Your Chameleon - Male, Veiled, 5 weeks old. I have had him 7 days.
• Handling - I have handled him about 3 times
• Feeding - I am feeding him on fruit flies that are dusted and have given him a couple of gut loaded crickets. Size 2. He was able to eat about 4 but I have seen him spit 1 out. He moves around his viv to eat the flies. I put about 20-30 flies in a day I think he eats about 10+
• Supplements - I have calcium powder without D3, exo terra calcium with D3 and komodo premium chameleon dusting powder
• Watering - I mist the viv 3-4 times a day, I have a dripper and waterfall. I am planning on getting a fogger to put in the waterfall resevoir. I have seen him drinking off the plastic plant leaf. I use reptisafe in the water to remove chlorine
• Fecal Description - Black, like pellets with some white
• History - I haven't seen him shed yet

Cage Info:
• Cage Type -it is 3ft by 3ft wooden sides, 2 glass panels and large vents in
• Lighting - 5.0 UVB light and red basking light. I have the uv on between 7.30-19.30 and the basking light 7.30 until 23.30
• Temperature - I have an exo terra thermometer and hygrometer and thermostat. I have 90-95 under the basking spot and 75 and the bottom of the cage. At night it drops to about 60-70
• Humidity - Humidity is between 70-85
• Plants - I am using plastic and I have 1 ficus in there
• Placement - It is 2ft off the ground, near a window but the sun doesn't come in on it in any way
• Location - uk

Current Problem - He does go to sleep sometimes during the day not for really long. He seems active the rest of the time. I want to know the best schedule for dusting as I want to get bigger as he is really little at the moment! Thanks

Hi, Im new as well, and my cham is a baby also,,,,its his 5 week birthday tomorrow!!! I was told to keep the temperature around 70 degrees througout the entire cage for the first 3ish months,,,and the humidity to 50 - 60%,,,my cham is feeding on 0ne sixteenth inch crickets,,,and Im using repashy Bug Burger to gut load the feeders,,,

He may be sleeping because the heat is getting to him!!!
Feed him those crickets with nutritious gut load and he will grow!!!

Just a few things Ive been told!!!
Ciao for now
Good Luck

Hi there. Welcome to the world of chameleons. Your basking temp is a bit high. Around 80 would be ok for a baby. Waterfalls look nice but are not recommended as they are a breeding ground for bacteria. If a feeder falls into the water and dies and your Cham drinks from it that's not good also he may poop in the water, enough said. Chams sleeping during the day is usually a bad sign. See how he goes when you lower the temp. 12 hrs lights on and 12 hrs lights off, basking as well is advised. You have a range of supplements how are you using them?

Thanks Kate. To be honest he doesn't go near the waterfall and I have heard that so don't have it on often really. I will take it out as I prefer the misting and dripper. I use the calcium on each of feed. I have dusted with the calcium and d3 once and the premium dust once as I feed him once a day. Thanks
