New veiled worries

Hello everyone!

I have just purchased my first veiled after months of research and work. He has only been in my care for 2 days so far and he is eating and drinking like a champ. Only problem is i noticed that the very front of his casque is bent/broken. Just curious if it could be a broken bone or just a burn of some sort.

Chameleon Info:
Your Chameleon - Veiled, Male , 7/8 months, 2 days
Handling - Never
Feeding - Crickets, 6 daily
Watering - misting,dripper

Cage Info:
Cage Type - repti-breeze 2x2x4
Lighting - reptisun 5.0 tube
Temperature - 85-90 basking 72-80 cool
Humidity - 50% at all times
Plants - pathos,money tree, umbrella tree, bamboo tree

Tried my best to get pics but is still very timid and scared

Are you talking about right at the base, it curves outward? That does not look right.

Yes. The base of it is almost bent at a 90 degree angle. It doesn't appear to be bleeding at all. I just have no idea how this could have happened.

I believe so. I just noticed it tonight and I'm pretty sure i would notice something like that. Do chameleons bang their heads on things like other reptiles do?

Was able to actually get him out of his cage and get some decent ones without losing a finger. Uploading now

He might be defensive in general because he is in pain. It does not look good. You should get him to a vet, so that he can be treated, and infection won't set in. Good Luck! Hopefully he will be okay!

I appreciate the advice, but due to me spending close to 1,000$ on him and his setup, and it being christmas a vet trip really isn't feasible at the moment. I hear polysporin is safe on chameleons, is this true? My plan is to monitor him closely and try to prevent infection first but if it gets worse then i will have no choice... So i guess my question is what methods of infection prevention are there and do you think the bone is broken?

I don't know much about the medicines for infection prevention. Please contact someone experienced with this, he needs some help.

In my opinion this is probably due to not having enough calcium while growing. Now that he is in your care it's best to make sure his supplementation schedule is on point. You did not mention weather or not you are supplementing or gutloading your insects.

Wow, I did not realize this. You do agree that that should still be treated, right?

It could be possible that it was a bite from a sibling that did the damage. Might need antibiotics. Did you get this guy from a petstore or a breeder? Do you know if he was being kept with others?

You really think so? I'm almost positive it wasn't there when I purchased him. I was thinking he fell going down and vine and smacked his head on one of my clay pots in his cage.

I supplement with calcium without d3 or phosphorous every feeding, multiviitiman once every 2 weeks and calcium with d3 once every 2 weeks.

I think polysporin is ok but I've always used flamazine or something like silvadene.
