Newbie: Help with little chameleon

We were at the beach this past weekend and my little guy INSISTED on buy this little chameleon in a platic cage with flip lid & carrying handle. I was hesitant since I know nothing about them. I hate coming onto a forum to ask silly questions but, here it goes.

I am not sure what type of chameleon it is (I have attached a picture)

The only instructions I have from the man at the store gave were the following: spray bottle cage 2 times a day, feed 1 meal worm every other day from the cup he gave us. Should I be making a trip to Petsmart for other supplies.

Some questions that came to mind from browsing these forums:
Do I need an aquarium with a UV light?
Do the meal worms need refrigerated?
Should I be feeding something different?

I want to make sure our chameleon has a good environment and is fed right. My little guy is FASCINATED that he can change colors.

Yeah, that is not a chameleon. It's a green anole. We have them running around everywhere here in Florida.

Definitely looks like you have yourself a Green Anole. If you do a Google search you will be able to find some care sheets for your anole.

That's a green anole. By the looks of it, she is a female. hard to tell from photo ut also looks quite plump which would mean she is gravid. I have kept these for many years and they are a great pet for kids. They actually do well in a screen top aquarium but an exo terra is better because of better airflow. I have two adults (a pair) in a 20 gallon tall aquarium with screen top. UVB light (2.0 reptisun) and a basking lamp. No additional heat lamp at night in summer, and just a 25 watt in winter. It is heavily panted with cork and things to climb on. Go to Home Depot and buy a pothos and a small shefflera and in no time you will have a very nicely filled in tank.

They are fairly social in my experience and like to be in with groups, but no more than one male in with 2-3 females. They rip each other's faces off fighting. A far as babies go, they are easy. My female laid eggs I couldn't find and I came home one day and tere were two babies bopping around the cage.

As for food, I feed phoenix worms (available from Ghann's) and small crickets. I water at least twice per day. They like humdity, but nothing swampy. they also LOVE fruit flies -- even the adults. They are like a treat for them.

It made me laugh too, but at least he's interested in how to take proper care of it and I believe he would be an excellent chameleon owner. It's definitely worth taking the leap and getting an actual chameleon if you're "little guy" is fascinated with color change. Congrats on your purchase, anoles are cool! And welcome to the forum, I'm new here but as you can see it's extremely helpful.

Anoles do change color...and they can be an interesting lizard to keep for a pet. Believe me they are easier to keep than a chameleon...so its kind of a good thing that you start off your lizard experience with an anole!

Right after I read this I went outside to check the mail and saw a green anole hanging out on one of the plants. They're less common than the brown anoles around here but you see them around every now and then. Take care of yours, it's a nice looking lizard!
