Hi,
I'm new to the forum and I'm looking forward to having a good read through the posts.

A local reptile rescue is being forced to shut down and I have taken on a 12 year old male Yemen. I recently rescued my other two female Yemens and they are about 7 months old, but are the size of very young chams. They had been kept in disgusting conditions with no UV or anything to climb on.

Can you please tell me how many locusts an adult Yemen should be eating. I was told by the rescue to feed him 6 adult locusts aday, but that seems too much. I have also bought large crickets for him, but again, I'm not sure how many to feed aday.

Thank You :)

An adult veiled could possibly eat maybe 3 adult locusts for a day. I'm still somewhat new to keeping chameleons, but you don't want to feed too much to an adult cham. I would keep the limit to maybe 3 locusts. Perhaps 4 or more if people here recommend. I have a young veiled (Yemen) who is maybe 6 months, but these guys can eat like a horse. You can usually judge by common sense, and by how large the locusts are how many you should be feeding. An adult veiled can eat up to 10 large crickets per day based on what I've read. You don't want to feed them too much as they can gorge themselves or at least become overweight.

With a 12 year old, I would be inclined to give him whatever he wants.
See if you can't get some hornworms or silkworms too ... those would be great for him.
He has surpassed the life expectancy of a male Yemen (5 to 10 years) by a decent amount.
He will not likely over eat.
Just don't leave any feeders in the enclosure over night that might chew on him!
Congrats on your new adoption

-Brad
