Vikki, I really can't believe that I only just arrived here to discover your Beman is gone. I am so sad about this. I love your post about building trust.. so many good tips and information. I have only had Jade for one week, and she is pretty skittish whenever I open the door to do something. I'm still messing with her cage, because of course I didn't get it right when setting it all up before I got her. I have only had Jade for one week, and she is pretty skittish whenever I open the door to do something. I'm still messing with her cage, because of course I didn't get it right when setting it all up before I got her. I did buy the kitbecause I had no idea, and they talked me into it at the pet shop. It does have the good lights.. (I think!) but as SOON as I can I am going to at least change out those shiny plastic vines for some silk ones until all the pothos get big enough to solely use them. I'm worried that this will totally freak her out though, because any time I am messing around in her cage she hides or climbs way up on the screen.
So do you have a new chameleon? I am so sorry once again.
thanks Vikki, I am filling out the husbandry right now.No love, Beman wasn’t my beauty but he was known & loved by the forum, along with his mom, @Beman The building trust blog is hers, and she and her blog have helped so very many, including myself. She may be taking a bit of a break from the forum right now, but I did just tag her so she can see your kind words.
I think it would be a great idea if you do a husbandry review to make sure you’ve got everything right & any areas that may need improvement. Start a new post & copy/paste this with your answers & some clear pics & we can get started.

Vikki, is this ok to use for an egg laying box? or do I need to mix it with sand?Hi and welcome! This is an awesome community (when you’re here, you’re chamily) and great place to share your love and passion for your pretty little girl. and is a 12"×6" box big enough or do I need to go get a bigger one?Vikki, is this ok to use for an egg laying box? or do I need to mix it with sand?
I’m going to say go bigger. The 12” is perfect, but 6” is a bit narrow. She might think it’s fine, but you won’t know until she is starting to dig and then if she stops, I’ll be telling you to try a bigger bin. For the substrate, play sand is best. You can mix it with some organic soil and even place a plant in the bin if you want. No peat, coco coir, moss or anything like that. When they dig, they don’t go straight down, but usually at an angle. One of mine dug straight across the whole bin. The substrate needs to be able to be compact so that it can hold a tunnel. Peat and other are too fluffy and won’t hold a shape.and is a 12"×6" box big enough or do I need to go get a bigger one?
ok.. first thing tomorrow I'm going out to get some sand and a bigger box. I have one pothos vine with roots.. I'm gonna put that in a little bit of the actual dirt so it grows good, then plant that in the sand.I’m going to say go bigger. The 12” is perfect, but 6” is a bit narrow. Can you post some clear pics of your sweetie?
she turned this color once, but I thunk she was scared of me messing with the dripper. And she gets a speckled stripped pattern when she's roaming around at the bottom, but it's too dark down there to get a picture.Aww…she’s so pretty. She looks like she hasn’t yet developed her big girl colors, so you’ve got time before needing a lay bin. When she gets excited/stressed you will see dark patterns on her, but they go away when she relaxes. Once they get their colors in, they won’t go back to the all green again.
