Newbie start up cost

oh yeah

if you count feeding cost I bought a big cricket keeper, gut load, repashy super food, rep-cal cal (that's full and i d no longer use) and those darn crickets eat better then I do (fresh fruits, kail, melons, and lots of veggies. and the the meters, spray bottles, timers, cords, power stripes.

Heck yeah those buggies eat better than me

Oh yes, I am happy :D this little dude has been a dream of mine since I was a kid :)

He is...the size of my pointer finger which is... Maybe 4 inches?

I paid 220 for my male panther with an appropriate cage for his size and a plant. 40 for a zilla slimline, ended up tossing it and having to pay 60 for a zoomed fixture and reptiglo bulb. 60 for a humidifier. Another 20 on larger plants. Then 50 feeders, containers for the feeders and gutload. Dripper and spray bottle for 12. So about 462 in the start, which spanned over a month.

Lolol I spent an extra hundred I didn't need to. Mostly because of the mix up with the slimline, and simply wanted a humidifier to make my room more appropriate.

the animal is always the variable!!! if you are crafty you can really cut into start up cost thought.. i built my cage... 20 bucks at petco for the bulb combo and a dollar store spray bottle. 5 dollar plant at lowes and your in the saddle.. 5 dollars for vitamins ect.. like i said there is no real wrong or right way.. as long as you can keep your animal healthy and happy who's to say your wrong. lol Have fun with it as this is a hobby and hobbies are supposed to be fun!!!

pictures

lets see some pictures of your chams and set-ups. my last veiled just lived in a tree in the corner no cage, my new baby nosy be has a very nice cage cause we wanted to spoil him.....mission achived :)

panther

veiled set up

here is my old set up i had for my veiled a day lap, night lamp and uv hood hung my chain in the corner and he just hung out in a tree. yes he would go on walk about in my room sometimes but he was easy to find, the back of the door (on my hoody), the ps3 or the top of the wii was where he was every time. you can see he was in very bad shape when i go him but from the first picture you can see i got him healthy again.

For my mega-super free range breeding set up..it went sothing like this:

chameleons both 300.00

30 year old ficus (found on similar at a nursary) 179.99

vines 40.00

temp\humidity gauges 30.00

lamp fixture 15.00

uvb, uva bulb 100w 40.00

timers, powerstrips 30.00

mistking 148.00 (all together for what i got)

cricket breeding bins all set up 80.00

digging bucket 20.00

sand for digging 5.00

incubator 139.99

incubation medium 19.99

incubation trays 5.00

tile for the floor to pick up extra moisture 60.00

ends up to 1107.97

not including around 60-80 a month on cricket food(dry-gutload, and salad mixes of greens and all the good stuff), and purified water(.35 cents a gallon, i go fill up like 15 a month)...

take into consideration babies...when you have 30 lil mouths too feed (especially baby chameleons, they are piggies!!) it goes up..gotta have micro crickets(pinheads, witch i make, but they arent allways hatching) , and fruit fly cultures..

as for food prices, i breed my own feeders, so i save tons there (sick of going to pet shops that would give me 12 crickets and charge me 1.09...thats rediculous!!!)

as for a standard set up caged, for one cham..ied say you are looking at around 500-700 dollars..

edit: also forgot that i spent abount 50.00 on supplements.....

ouch! but it's money well spent your chams look awesome.the male does not bother the female too much? I want to get my male a female and maybe breed them he is about 4 months old.

actually pretty cheap considering ive had toy helicopters that where $3800.00 ( the stuff those really old guys have, i was the guy they all went to heres my old one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-NzlWEFCTS8 )..pretty much anything of mine thats a hobby i go all out on it caue i figure why be cheap to myself, get the best, you deserve the best.. hell some people spend thousands on a dog, and a single vet bill can be 1000.00..

watch in a few years, you will have accumilated probably over 2000.00 for your cham or chams by then..LOL

and as for male bothering female..just doesent seem to happen..even in my vids where they are climbing onto me, they just basically ignore eachother..pretty much the female is boss, when shes down , to "get down" she lets him know...maybe hes just patient in a relationship..LOL pretty rare for a guy...LOL

i did the math last month and i have INVESTED lol about 5000 in the year on my chams alone..... dont even get me started on the other hobbies
and im by no means a weathy person

my veiled pushed the female out of the tree when they were 4-5 months old. i want to get a female for out new panther but I don't know yet.

i stopped counting. iv got 2 chams and just gave their baby cage to my mantis(she layed!)

its probally about 1500 now. or pritty darn close. not including feeders. i love to buy them every darn thing i can think of and try to make it perfect. i still want pothos hanging and the vines everywhere...but that mean more lights! lol

Imagine the costs I had.........
And this is just one bank of cages...not to mention all the dragons, snakes, geckos, monitors that I had also.......
