Hello i have a 8-9 month old veiled cham, im kinda new to chameleons ive had mine for a couple months now and seem to be doing everything right so far. (Thanks to this website:) ) but i came across some threads about laying bins? At what age should i place a laying bin in? And can she just use the dirt in the pots i already have in her cage? Does it have to be special dirt? And at what age can i mate her? Any advice will be greatly appreciated..

hey there, congrats on your chameleon :D

there probably should be a laying bin in their now as I've heard of females laying eggs as early as 6 months old.

I hear potting soil is ok, but it must NOT have any pesticide stuff in it. I've heard of people using a mixture of sand and potting soil also.

I've always heard you should wait till your female is 1 year old at least to mate her as you want her to get all the benefits of bone development while she can before more of her calcium consumption goes to eggs. You want to make sure her bones are strong :D

but take note, this is all from research I've done. there are probably some who breed earlier but maybe give extra calcium somehow.

And your responses are going to vary on what to use for substrate in the laying bin. In the caresheets for chameleons you should see a link to a video about how and what to use for a laying bin. Its very informative.

hope this helps a little.

take care :D
