Hoping someone here can help us. Our jacksons chameleon unexpectedly had babies 3 days ago (apparently we purchased a pregnant chameleon). We kept one of the babies but we do not know how to get it to eat. We did buy fruit flies and we made a little enclosure for it because I read to keep it separated from the mom. However it shows no interest in the fruit flies. It has been a few days now. We also tried feeding it by hand and it wont take the food. We are worried that it is not eating. Does anyone know how to feed it? I have tried putting several flies in a netted enclosure with the baby but it doesnt eat. HELP worried about it! thank you!

I've heard that newborns won't eat for a few days. Maybe just wait a little longer? Also please post pics and updates. (y)

Many do not eat for the first day or two and then you may not see them but once a week if you are lucky. You will know they are eating when you start seeing little poops on leaves and such. Look for poops! Also, to centralize the fruit flies and make them easier targets for babies, try adding a slice of fruit to attract the feeders. See the attached picture. Also, Hydei fruit flies are more likely to concentrate around a piece of fruit than are Melanogaster. Also, Hydei are larger (but not too large for a baby Jacksons) so the baby will need to catch fewer of them in order to fill their bellies. Be sure to provide a light misting several times a day. Add enough fruit flies but don't overwhelm your babies with too many. Add a few (25-50) then add a few more later and then a few more later as needed. Don't put the full day's worth of flies in at one time. Good luck! REMEMBER - LOOK FOR POOP!!
