newborn jackson chameleon questions

I just wanted to ask what are the basic care of newborn jackson's? I had an unexpected 8 of them born last night. I have them in a plastic cage right now with small branches in them. For food I have fruitflies and pinhead crickets in there for now. For lighting and heat I put them by the window with some shade on half of the cage. Is there any thing else that can help these little guys healthy?

constant food availability, frequent waterings (light spray) and watch the temp's they can overheat easily!! i have 2 different clutches of neonates, jacksonii, jacksonii and veiled. they seem to hate the water but after a minute or two they start to drink, it is a must. the food must be easily caught for now, they won't be great hunters at first but they try and try until they are.
good luck.

i had a similar situation happen last oct.

i put them in a 'proper' cham cage; all mesh w/the plastic bottom. i added two miniature plants and the mini biovine (just the right size for their little feet). the cage was big enough to accomodate all of them but was not very tall - this was to keep the feeders from climbing too high. i misted them constantly (over 10 times a day) to keep them very well hydrated. i also feed them lots - there was always enough food in there so that all 10 could eat. i did my best to see that every one ate but w/10 moving bodies it wasn't easy! i also gave them a reflective hood w/a reptiglo 5.0 (couldn't find reptisun). i didn't add heat b/c it is very hot where i live already (sunny florida). then i spent every free moment in panic mode  watching them breathe, watching them eat, watching them sleep - and doing constant head counts for fear that some one would die. so far none have! it has been very exciting but very nerve wracking too. :p

this site, and the info on it, has been a life saver (literally).

you can pm me if you want more info, if i'm not clear on the above, or if you need support. they are such very cute litttle beings! i wish you the best of luck and i hope that your mama is doing well. :D

sigh... i'm sure all chams are adorable at a young age but i'm obviously partial to jackson's. that whole live birth thing is amazing.

like all newborns hydration is critical - even before food. my babies didn't eat right away b/c the birth was a shock; i wasn't told she was pregnant:eek:

But can they drink TOO much?

Besides misting, i have been offering water direct to my neonates. I have learned that over-misting can be fatal. So I trained them to drink out of bottlecaps. When I first gave them the water, they drank, drank drank, it seemed like forever. (I was watching them closely to make sure there were no accidents.) After they drank they acted kind of... drunk... lazy and sated and lay down to sleep. Could a neonate over-drink?
