Next Cham

I want a vote on what people think about my next chameleon! I'm open to suggestions and love all types! Can you guys tell me what Cham you think I should get and why?! It would be very interesting to hear your thoughts! I have a Jackson's already who I love dearly! But I want one more chameleon to make my family bigger! Please let me know!

I've always wanted a high turquoise veiled. Think that would be my next cham.

I like Simbava panthers and Falys. Colors are unique and they all show different patterns.

I never see anyone on here with Giant Spiny Chameleons, I think those are amazing lol. Colors on them can get pretty cool.

Kinyongia multituberculata.

Why?

First off, you can find them captive bred from a forum member who does and awesome job. They have two cool saw blade like horns, very active, nice colors and most seem to be "personable".

Another GREAT reason is that you have a jacksons already. They have the same care requirements. Its going to be hard to keep something like a veiled, panther or any low land species beside a montane species like a jacksons and keep them both happy. Montane species need more humidity, lower ambient temps and lower basking sites then low land species who need higher ambient and basking temps.

The above reason is the most important in my opinion!!! Not to mention the montanes are much cooler then veileds and panthers:cool:

Personally I'd chose a veiled because I already have everything for another cham :D also they're pretty much the same set-up wise. Also i love the colors and how big veiled chams get. So far i've had 2 panthers and I've always wanted a high turquoise veiled.

For your situation I'd go with what Cainschams mentioned, you already have a jackson so it will be extremely hard trying to take care of two totally different species. You should master one chameleon then move on with another similar species.

Well they wouldn't be right next to one another I could put them far apart. I don't think it'd be too hard for me :) but is that a fischers Cham?

I would choose a panther, but I'm a little biased. It's the color and size that appeals to me. Yes, they are popular and a lot of people have them, but there is a reason why they are popular...they are awesome:)

Yes, that is a fischers cham. Even if in the same room but not right next to each other you arent going to be able to keep two totally different species exactly happy in my opinion. Along with what I mentioned, montanes like a very good night time drop while low land species need a drop but not as much. Some people juggle with two different species like that but I dont think its the best idea.

Of course many will suggest a panther because they have lots of color and are the most popular as said. I based my opinion on what you already have and what will be easiest to keep in the same room. Of course you can choose what you want and try to juggle between the two but again, not the best scenario.

When I kept both low land and montanes they were in two separate rooms with two totally different set ups. The montanes had a humidifier in the room and also the heat vents were blocked off in the winter so it was cooler and they got more of a night time drop. I had no humidifier in the low land room and the vents werent blocked off so it didnt get as cool in that room. In the summer both had AC but I would give the low lands higher wattage bulbs so they had a higher basking site in addition to keeping the ambient temp in the room warmer.

I like all that info thanks a lot, I do have the Availability to put them in seperate rooms if I'd like. I just thought it's be easier to have them in the same room. But your points are def making me realize it'll be harder then I bargained for. Thanks a lot!

I started with a jackson's chameleon many years ago. At one point I had a small breeding colony. The male that started it all for me was my first lizzard pet ever. He lived a long happy life and had many offspring.
When I was ready to get another, different species, I started doing reasearch and I found this forums. --My choice ended up being a Panther Chameleon, an Ambilobe, who I named Sir Lancelot. About five or six months ago I got him a girlfriend, Cammie.
So my vote is for a Panther Chameleon as your next chameleon.:D

No problem:) It can be done in the same room and I dont want to sway you from getting the cham you want the most. That is what is important. Just want to let you know that its going to be a juggling act;) Not everyone can juggle. I can a little. Can you?:D

If you are going to try it some things to consider trying.

Keeping the cages apart from each other.

Using a high wattage bulb for the low land species to try and keep the ambient temp just around its cage higher while not getting the ambient room temp too hot for the jacksons. You will want to make sure the bulb is not directly on top of the cage or the cham may get burnt. Set it hanging above making sure the basking site is correct but the extra heat is being distributed to the other sections of the cage making a good ambient temp yet still providing the cham with temp gradients.

Cover three sides of the jacksons cage with some painters plastic or whatever you like so it keeps the humidity in better. You could use a humidifier near its cage, use a fogger that goes off here and there throughout the day or just mist his cage down more. You do want to make sure its drying out between mistings or you can cause problems that way.

It is possible to get an appropriate night time drop for a jacksons while still keeping a low land comfortable.

If you do want to try it that way I suggest setting up the other cage before you get the cham so you can do test runs and make sure its going to work out for both.

Hopefully this helps out and you get the cham you want while making both of them happy regardless of what species you decide:)

I'm sure I could juggle those two tasks, I have leopard geckos that have to have certain heat while keeping my Jackson's completely happy. I know this is a diff concept or occasion but I'm doing great at keeping all happy. I also have a cool mist humidifier with a tube running to the side of the Jackson's cage. I also only put live plants in their cages, no fake stuff. Everything is very smooth. I don't really juggle but I can sure stick handle (hockey) lol! But I think ill be good!!!

Sounds like you got a good setup going already and dont need much tinkering if you decide a low land species then:D

Fischers are still cooler then panthers and veileds though:cool:

Oh, and to answer the original poster, I'd go with a panther or Meller's.

Panthers for their uniqueness in patterns, colors and availability.

Melleri because they're LARGE and very neat looking. If I could find CBB meller's, I'd have a clan of them! lol
