Night time temp and age for new cage question

Hello! Hope all if you are enjoying your day. I was wondering if a night time temp of 70 degrees is OK or if I should drop it a bit. I keep my panthers ambient temp at 77 degrees during the day. Also he is 6 months old- his current enclosure is a 16 x 16 x 30; is it time to bump him up to an adult size? Any info would be much appreciated. Thanks so much!

that temp should be fine, i've seen senior members say even 60's are fine at night and that panthers CAN(i didn't say should) survive in the 50's at night. also around 85 tops is what I've gathered from other members for day/basking temp. Although others claim around low 90's are fine.. Im currently sticking between 65/night and 85/day..lol just noticed we're both from Cali and joined the same date as well :)

Welcome guys.

I try to keep my cham room 78 ambient during the day and 72 at night.

My chams seem to do fine and My booberry grew like a weed under those conditions.

I've had my Chams for 2 years now and both are doing fine. I also have a new addition as of a week ago who is also doing great.

Lol! I love my home state :) We've had our new lil guy for about a month now. I used to own Jacksons but that was around 17 years ago in SoCal, so the temp & humidity differences were pretty substantial..not to mention a lot has changed in the herp world since then though and this is my first panther.

Thanks so much! What about his enclosure size?

Depends on how big he is. You can set up you adult cage and see how he dose. The big thing to look for is that he is able to eat and drink and find his basking site.

My male Nosy Be I believe injured his eye being in a too small cage and now he is blind in the right eye.

My adults are in separate 24"x24" x 48" My baby cage is 18x12X20

The reason why I ask is because he gets restless periodically during the day; he'll paw at his enclosure. When I open it up, he climbs right out onto his door and usually wants to climb straight onto me. I've been scouring this forum a bit (man there are some awful Cham horror stories in here :,( ) and everything I've read says limited handling to reduce stress but it's hard not to handle him when he tries to climb onto me or out onto his door and then I have to let him climb in my hand and put him back on his ficus. His temps and humidity levels are fine according to what I've read online & here on the senior
members husbandry advice. He also let's me know when he wants to be left alone; he'll flare up his throat and open his mouth and then I'll promptly leave & respect his space (I want a confident Cham!) I just want to provide him the vest if care I can. Also, he hates to poop in his house..he lives to climb out in the door and do his business.

my 2 cents-

If 70 is your room temperature, I wouldn't worry about it. But if you are using some sort of night heat, I wouldn't do that either.

My panthers have upper 90s basking down to low 50 nights sometimes (usually higher night temps, but depends on time of year). Babies have access to this basking temp and are exposed sometimes to low 50s from day 1 and they do great. They are pretty hardy. I only bring them indoors when night temps drop below 50.

It is important to note though that I don't force them to bask in the upper 90s- they are given enclosures with lots of choices from true thermal gradients so they can move to be the exact temperature they crave. Nevertheless, they often move to bask at the warmest part.

You can see the exact weather that wild ambilobe panther chameleons are experiencing at this moment by clicking on my sig link below this post and clicking on the lizard blog. I have a weather ap in the side bar that shows the temperature and forcast in Ambilobe Madagascar.

Thanks a bunch! I do have a space heater that has a thermostat in it so it does not run constantly- only if temps drop below 70 degrees as I live in Mendocino County which is in Northern Cali & is not the warmest of places in the winter.
