No way to start the day

Sadly ,one of my long term Quadricornis males passed away this morning.
He was wild caught and I had him for about 3.5 years so I am guessing his age to be about 5. He was pretty outgoing for this species. I have so many chameleons it seems strange to get attached but I am going to miss this guy.

Sorry to hear Chuck... Quads are cool little Chams. It always sucks...especially considering what you probably had to go through to acclimate the little guy, You must have done a good job to keep him with you for so long.

Ardi Abate actually kept a Quad for 13+ years that was already a full adult when imported. I'd seen it a couple times over the years. Last I saw it was developing what she thought was arthritis a while back. Not sure if it is still kicking but on top of it, the animals's color was outstanding which made it a real treat to check out. This is a pretty long lived species. It's tough when you have a nice group of animals and your favorite goes down. Sounds like though you've got a lot to keep you busy though. Good luck.

sorry charlie that does suck but im sure the other three hundred will keep you busy haha but seriously sorry no matter how many chams you have it always hurts to loose one

A well-cared for veiled can live 8-10, but montanes, if given cool nights, can easily outlive that. I've head of deremensis over 10 years old on Joe B's farm in Tanzania. He's reportedly got melleri at 18 years.

One of the huge benifits to melleri - they don't break your heart with short lives. On paper, anyway. Still a lot to learn abotu them!

Chuck, that sucks, I'm sorry to hear. AT least (I'm assuming here) you have some of his offspring you've raised.?

Eric, cool nights have that big of an impact on the animal? I know it's recommended and preferred for montanes, but didn't know it could potentially extend one's life so long. I try to keep it cool, but sometimes during the summer it's hard to do.:(
